E clear owned Globespan at the time they ceased trading in the region of £32m, which roughly was one month sales.

This guy did not cause FGS demise I worked at HQ for 2 years prior and a certain TD caused all those problems all by himself, e-clear was a convenient scapegoat for TDs mismanagement.

Yes, he did. To quote Ian Fraser's blog, and give him full credit for everything said in the extract, now in the public domain;
I'm sure lessons were learned........maybe. Could PPRuNe be one of the web-based forums?
hings took a turn for the worse for Dalrymple in summer 2006, when he unveiled ambitious expansion plans for Flyglobespan, including the launch of new transatlantic routes. The plan involved connecting a host of UK airports, including Gatwick, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh, with North American destinations including Boston, New York, Hamilton (near Toronto), Calgary and Vancouver.
In July 2006, Dalrymple entered an agreement Icelandic flag-carrier Icelandair. This deal would see the Reykavik-based carrier lease him a couple of Boeing 757-200s complete with full flight-crew to serve the new transatlantic routes from May to October this year.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. After all, Icelandair is seen as the “BA of Iceland” and the 757-200 is supposed to be an ideal aircraft to serve long-haul destinations. But no sooner had the arrangement kicked in, than the Boeing 757-200s experienced a bizarre sequence of technical difficulties.
On numerous occasions, hundreds of Flyglobespan passengers were left stranded, sometimes for days at a time, at North American airports. It gave rise some remarkably negative comments on web-based forums for air passengers and planespotters.

Sorry,but....
Nobody has had worse /negative PR over the years than FR but where are they now ?
Although I agree that Dalrymple made some mistakes ( who doesn't ? ) my understanding ( from speaking with one of the partners of the company's auditors ) is that it could have quite comfortably survived the cash crisis that eventually killed it if E-Clear had actually transferred the cash to Globespan that it should have done and when it should have done....
Instead, this scumbag deliberately witheld payments due to Globespan, while he was trying to buy the whole Globespan portfolio in the hope that he'd get it at a firesale price....
In addition to this, he used Globespan's, and Sunwing's, and Zoom's income to keep E-Clear afloat while he syphoned off millions from E-Clear to fund his own, private property empire in the UK and Cyprus - all allegedly, of course !!
Ever wondered how a company which is a middleman processing computerised payments between an airline and Credit Card companies, doesn't buy or sell anything, etc, etc, manages to run up debts of £100 million plus ?
Then again, maybe like Dalrymple he just made a few mistakes himself in his business affairs if selling a £7 million plus property for just £25,000 is an example of his business acumen....

No wonder this profession is going down the tubes: too many clueless blue collar idiots following magenta lines!

21 airplanes and 70 destinations with in 5 years of starting operations (if the blog is correct on that account) would be a classic case of overexpansion, seen time and again in this business. And will be seen again.
Perhaps slower expansion, without trying to be all over the UK would have made more sense?

Anything I have said is not from speculations or newspapers I sat in the FGS boardroom twice a day know full well what went on. Ocean crosser you are correct as I was one of the auditing team that went to Iceland before the B757 ACMI all 4 of us in the team recommended TD walked well we all know what happened also the debacle of putting a B737 in to an unapproved hangar it LPL expressly against the engineering teams advice cost millions to rectify and then the B757 at Southend the list goes on and on. Oceancrosser everything that you saw above is 100% true perhaps we worked at FGS at the same time??
