Aer Lingus A320 FO via contract agency
Hi,
I work for a large Airline as a SFO A320/A330. People have to go and I have to check the options.
After looking at different airlines, Aer Lingus seems a good option, so some questions:
-anybody on contract as an FO at AL?
-I have the option between LHR or DUB, I prefer DUB . How are the costs for living?
-they only offer LHR 6-3 roster or DUB 5-2 roster. Can I commute with some help from scheduling?
-How are the social contributions and taxes I have to pay? Letīs say they offer 6000 Gross=>.... Nett?
-Housing in DUB? I checked for a normal family and below 1200 Euros it is difficult to find something nice. I would rather commute as I have a house in Germany.
-How is the flying and am I part of the team or just a contract b....?
I am in a difficult situation as I have a family to support. Nobody hires and if yes the conditions are crap. Aviation is completely going down the drain and I want to make sure that I do not support this trend by going as a contractor to Aer Lingus. So yes or no?
I would appreciate some comments or thoughts.

Hi el caballero rojo,
If you think these are bad conditions, I suggest you check out other jobs on offer. I don't know about your level of experience on the A320, but guys that just meet the requirements for this position will be hard pressed to find anything better around.
I understand you might be better of at your current employer, but if staying there is not a possibility I think Aer Lingus is a good alternative. They are offering better conditions then say EZY or Ryanair. Maybe if you can find a job in Germany you will get something close to these conditions and save money on housing.
If you already got the job offer on the tabel, you should also have the calculations for paying taxes. There are a lot of variabels which affect your taxes, but I am quitte sure you would pay less then you do in Germany.
I think commuting will be very difficult on a 5-2 roster.
Good luck on finding another job.

With all do respect. Concerning the new Germanwings, Eurowings pilots are all on part time work to save the jobs of their colleagues down the list. I donīt think they need another application from me even if they are not hiring. I do thank you for your reply and help.
Oly, on the contrary, I checked numerous contracts and Aer Lingus was by far the best I found on the A320. No jobs in our region.
Thank you for your opinion.

Certainly an admirable thought. But in today's industry there may be no room for such chivalry.

Does somebody have more information about Aer Lingus and living in Ireland as an expat?
What about the mood within the company?
Are there already expats flying at AL?
How about the future of this airline(Ryanair takeover bid...)?
Thanks in advance!

The door is closing. You better hurry. Only a few open gradings left for next week and I can't attend. I am on the other side of the pond. So that's it for me. Maybe you have more luck. Strange that the internal application closing date was the 31th and they already have them all filled.

EI LHR pilots
Current ROI based ops crew were given chance to transfer and the offer was over subscribed , lots ex pats in ROI in EI so some were happy to move plus ROI taxes are onerous these days so HMRC seems a sweeter deal for some.

donīt know about AL, but if you can speak German why not try LH?
Germanwings should soon hire, with new Passage Concept.
Good luck.
