I think he means it took a little longer than 5 minutes.

If BASSA couldn't have it returned there wouldn't have been a settlement. During all industrial confrontations in BA, staff travel has been taken away and then returned in the final settlement. This dispute was no different.

I left BA after 14 yrs service and was assured that on reaching retirement age I would get BA staff Travel. On reaching that age I was told that subsequent to my departure they hanged the rules by adding "within 10 yrs of retirement age" and I was not entitled to the concession. You cannot rely on any management in any airline to stand by their word.

In fact, the only difference was that the General Secretary told his membership that he would have it returned within 5 minutes....and they believed him!!

Slight exaggeration there me thinks. No time frame was mentioned, just a promise it would be returned in full - and he duly kept to his promise!

I remember the time frame being mentioned, and it was indeed a matter of minutes. Shame BASSA have deleted their old forum or we could find Uncles quote for you.

Goldcup

Absolutely. I think www will be here for another couple of weeks until term starts again, then he'll disappear until the Easter break.

Did BASSA's accounts ever see the light of day?

according to this link on BA Staff Travel FAQ's for retired staff, if the flight was firm you should have been treated as a commercial pax

I have been very surprised by the back and forth in this thread. To me, the key things here are discrimination and proportionality. If BA has a general policy that it will accept no loss claims for ST baggage, or that any complaint about ST travel policies will result in withdrawal of privileges, I could understand this. Further, all retirees could understand it as well.

But what seems to be afoot here (assuming there was no unreported misconduct that some seem to be insinuating) is that (1) BA made an arbitrary reprisal against Bond for requesting something that general policies said he was entitled to; and (2) this reprisal is completely out of proportion to the offence. Amongst large corporations (in the US at least), if there is something that will quickly get you into legal trouble, it is taking arbitrary one-off actions. I would doubt greatly that this would ever go to court. Just a short letter to the chief legal officer of BA asking if it has a general policy of permanently binning anyone's ST privileges if complaints are lodged and whether this policy was communicated to staff would likely be enough to gain a rescission.

Exclamation

All the above assumes that we have all the facts and a full and accurate account of what actually happened. Which I very much doubt. Trial by internet forum seldom reveals anything except the prejudices and petty feelings of the posters involved.

I have very little doubt BA know EXACTLY what they are doing. We should leave it with Bond and BA.
