Smile RYR: winter job share

Anyone here with details about this Ryanair ''program'' for the winter? I've read here somewhere that you fly 50% of the time, does this mean 30, 40, xx hours a month during the winter or the full 50 hours?

If someone could give me some details about this (someone who took this program this winter or someone that you know) >> THANK YOU!!!!!

I know someone in a small uk base that did that and didnt get many hours in, then on the flip side heard of someone in Madrid who was working a lot of hours, but I don't know that person, I assume it depends what base you are in and how desparate they are within that base,

Most of the bases have 5 ON, 4 OFF pattern. In that case, you would just drop one ON block. You would end up with a 5 ON, 13 OFF.
This pattern is available from 1st of Nov till end of March. Some months, you would have only 5 working days, some others, 10.
Of these blocks of 5 working days you would have one SBY. Depending on the base, the sectors can be quite short. You may fly less than 20 hours a month, and be payed accordingly. Some months you could be flying 60 hours.
You would have to find a mate willing to share with you. One of you would stay on early shift, the other would always be on late.

Taking this winter as an example in some bases, I understand, it was a good deal and in others it was a bad deal. In the base I can comment on the people who went job share only got the same flying they would have got anyway. i.e. every other week 2 days flying 3 days stand by. So very little money. Lots of cars sold and credit cards pushed to the max. Also something worth considering is that as you work every other week you are going to spend an entire winter on earlies or lates if that is something that matters to you.

The system only works if you are going to get at least 4 of those days on. As with everything else Ryanair NOTHING is guaranteed ! So look carefully at your bases winter schedule when it comes out ! My advice to everyone planning to stay at Ryanair thorough next winter is budget for three months unpaid leave and then anything you get is a bonus.

Back on topic, if you can budget for three months off and you are unfortunate enough to have to commute to your base then it will definately improve your lifestyle for the winter and not hit you as hard in the pocket by the time commuting living costs are taken out.

In my opinion, for whatever that's worth, The deal will suit some and not suit others. Be careful study the schedule and budget accordingly. You don't really need those Audi TTs and Breightling watches. Enjoy more time with your friends and family instead.

I was in Madrid this winter on a job share, pretty good if you want an obscene amount of time at home. It's a 5 on 13 off, only doing one shift depending on what the other guy does, i.e. one guy only does lates the other only earlies.

Hours wise, I've done a similar number to last year, don't do that many standbys, but I've still had a couple.
They can give you a pretty bad month if your 13 days off are the 1st and last 13 days of the month and you have a couple of standbys you could end up flying only 10 hours, but then again, you may end up flying 35+ if you have a long week. It's all a bit of a roster lottery!

I'd do it again if given the option, I'd much rather be at home earning nothing, than being away, paying for a hotel, being miserable, and possibly being lumped with 3 days standby a week and maybe losing money!

I would have thought the sensible thing about job/roster sharing is to insist on a clause that you do not do SBY. That would be an absurd thing to happen for someone not full-time.

Are there any RYR pilots who take leave without pay over winter? How long would be possible?

@FulhamFC: I have got exactly the same question!

I was wondering as well for what period you can take unpaid leave in the winter? I read somewhere here on the forum for 4 months + one regular month/year off, so that's 5 months in a row?

But what happens if you come back? Do you have to do an OCC then or whatsoever of can you fly the line immediately.

I would rather stay at home with my kids and family in the winter than doing 30 hours/month.

Let me know guys and once again: THX FOR THE INPUT!!
