Emirates DEC positions now open!
I thought this might have to happen at some point, but I still can't believe my eyes!

I don't think EK will be looking for Ryanair captains as their first choice...

Rubbish.Ryanair pilots have to endure a fair amount of snobbery. Probably justified,given that Ryanair has ruined the industry in terms of passenger experience and crew terms and conditions. However Ryanair pilots are generally very proficient. They have to be ok given the intense nature of the whole horrible operation and challenging little place's they fly too.Cue Carcassonne,one of many beauties.
Having spoken to people in Emirates - its universally known that Ryanair pilots are specifically targeted. Not exclusively of course,they recruit from every airline but Ryanair in particular.
They know the Ryanair 'product' and are very happy with it. Seems reliable from a HR and training perspective. Now they want more of that reliability - in Captains.
Emirates have a fantastic internal knowledge of Ryanair,more so then any other airline they recruit from due to the volume of guys joining. They know the SOP's and realise they are very stringent and strict,they know the 'politics' in ryanair and how difficult it is to leave and they know how disgruntled its pilots are.
They know they will receive more Ryanair applications then any other airline. They will like this. I also believe they concocted and made allowances for this with their DEC hours and experience requirements.
Emirates HQ will be like any other Ryanair crewroom in due course. Whisper figures of at least 700 former ryanair pilots being recruited over the next couple of years. That seems conservative

I met an Emirates recruiter at the Dubai Airshow, and he specifically said they design their recruitment process around the amount of days off a Ryanair person can get. It was this which encouraged then to start the initial interview over here before travelling to DXB, according to him. So I can well believe the floodgates may open soon.

Absolutely true. Its known how difficult it is to leave Ryanair's various 'contract agencies'. Therefore the pre-selection process is perfect for Ryanair guys doing a day here and a day there. Then the time in Dubai is lessened and can be done on their 4 days off, no 'sick days' required.
Also advice is often given to hand in the notice only when the required hours are attained,not even 5 shy. As invariably guys are given 3 months of unpaid STBY's for their 3 months notice period instead of 3 months of standard flying hours. Utterly horrible but it has happened to a few unfortunates in the past,who then couldn't join due to not meeting the requirements.So even if you have 2499 hrs,do not hand in your 3 months notice - your not out of the woods yet,your not even guaranteed that 1hr in the next 3 months.

Good luck to you RYR guys, even though I have no love for the EK 'machine' I hope you can escape from that awful weasel who owns your airline and has

At a seminar last week our CP stated that he expected to lose some expensive Capts from the top third of the seniority list and he was quite content with this situation. Also, he expected the initial successful applicants to be those with training ratings. Bearing in mind our company and the head of training at Emirates have a previous relationship, I would not go eyeing up potential property in the sandpit yet.

DEC Captain Pay - Emirates
I was looking into the numbers and trying to figure out exactly how much on average a Captain in Emirates takes home. Any EK Cpt who could fill me in?
All the Emirates website says is the following:
Basic pay + Flight pay (85 hours): 41 240 AED/Month (8352 EUR / 11228 USD)
Additional pay: ??????????
Average month total: ?????????
I actually thought the pay was higher, like 20 000 USD/Month. Are these figures correct?

The Fo's at our firm that have recently gone have taken roughly the same as their UK salary (towards the bottom end of the jet scales) but take it tax free, which is the biggest benefit. Everything else available is really to do with housing and schooling costs. Good money, but t'aint a get rich scheme anymore.
