Aeroprofessional
An ex-colleague of mine applied for a job via Aeroprofessional. The hours on type needed was pretty high for this type of assignment. Did not hear anything about it, then applied direct to the airline and got an offer quite soon. Once at company conversion course, my ex-colleague spoke to the Head of Training at the airline, and brought the hour requirements up. The HoT said "we've never had those requirements, were did you hear this?"
Nobody else that applied via aeroprofessional got even an offer.
Is this common for recruitment agencies - to make up their own version of the story?

Funnily enough, I've found it the other way round.
An agency leaves out a critical requirement (age limit?).
You are encouraged to apply ( thereby qualifying as an agency sourced applicant! ) you spend a day filling in the airlines online application (several times 'cos it keeps crashing!) send it off, and wait excitedly for an indeterminate period of time.
Then the airline replies that theyre "velly solly bur you don have proper requiremen".
On the other hand I could just be a cynical old git!!

If anyone "really" wants to fly "MadDogs" in Lagos, PARC are now offering Capt's positions for NON type rated guys. Min requirements 1500P1 in an equivalent type (737/A320)
Come on guys, who wants to fly Airbus, come to Lagos & fly a "mans aircraft"
Where do I sign ? ?
The only "good" thing (well, everything is relative) about this vacancy is that AeroPro say you can have a 20/10 40/20 0r 60/30 rotation, which is not perfect, but not the worst.

In the same "optimistic" vein, just up today on latestpilotjobs.com, Betts Aviation looking for MD80 drivers to be converted at companies expense onto DC9 .
Base - Libya
Roster - 5-6 days on, 1-2 off
One ticket home provided a year (well, you won't need more than that ,with the proposed roster )
I am trying to see the positive side of this one too. . . . . . but

I just received an unsolicited call from Aeroprofessionals.
I have never dealt with a crew leasing agency and I would like to know how they stack up against other crew leasing firms. I did a quick search but so far I have come up empty.
The position was a Capt spot on a widebody in Asia but the T&C aren't that compelling.

Then call them back and tell them the T&Cs aren't acceptable.
When they can't come up with any crew then they'll have to go back to the client and tell them they'll have to up the offer.
We, the pilot community, are our own worst enemies when it comes to organising to improve T&Cs, because someone, somewhere, will accept the dross which is exactly what the agencies and airline accounting bloodsuckers rely on..

Hey Big D
Yah, Lagos, da city of splendah, centre of excellence.
I miss the soft spoken, courteous and honest people there, the cuisine and the wonderful atmosphere. A great reality check.

Spectacularly naive
What am I missing here? There seems to be no paucity of adequately qualified pilots chasing not that many jobs for pretty awful Ts & Cs so why do the airlines need to go through agencies to get a hold of them? Thus eroding the already slim profit margins.

response to dude1
Hi dude1,
I work with Aeropro, my name is Abrar. Hope you wont mind me trying my best to give an impartial view. There are some really good agencies out there, and some really bad from what I hear. I genuinely feel we're one of the good ones, we're not perfect, we do make mistakes but we do absolutely everything within our power to correct them when they do happen (Which is seldom...). Most importantly me and my colleagues care about our customers which is people such as yourselves and the Airlines.
Salary and market is a tough and broad topic to discuss here in detail, just wanted to say and I only speak for myself that, the consultants in Aeropro are always trying to get the best package possible for the Pilots who will do the job.
I hope we get the opportunity to work with you one day so we get the chance to show you that we mean what we say. Apply confidently with us!
