Does anybody have any information regarding an English bloke working for Jetstar Aus. In requirements they say Australian ATPL(how would i qualify for this and would they consider me prior to exams if needed). What are they like to work for and how does sallary stack up. Currently 3000 hrs large jet, A320 rated..would they be interested?

Any opinions?

Work visa to start with, you will need to convert over there, the very least cpl air law, atpl air law and the irex. 8-12 weeks work. Then do the IR on something, I did it on a A320 sim. Take home pay FO A320 6-9k you will also do 1000 hours pa.

Agreed Cpl air law, atpl airlaw , irex and IR. However with a bit of studying in the UK before travelling to oz for the above I completed that process including medical in less than 3 weeks.

You have to do human factors as well to convert your license. Good luck getting a 457 though as Jetstar no longer sponsor visas. there is a way to get australian PR as a pilot but you'll need to have the ATPL first and a couple of grand.

I was under the impression that Immi, removed Pilot from their list and it was no longer possible to obtain PR with Pilot as a skill.

Aeroplane Pilot is still on the Skilled Occupation List, under Schedule 2. This means that it is an occupation available for state or territory sponsorship under their State Migration Plans but, as it is not on Schedule 1, it is not available for a Skilled Independent visa.

So, in order to obtain a skilled migration visa as pilot you will need to find a state that has Aeroplane Pilot on their skilled migration occupation list and apply for an appropriate visa. However, simply being in an occupation on the SOL is no longer enough to get a visa, you need to demonstrate that you have experience in that, or a closely related, occupation - the longer you have been doing it the more points you get. If you're sponsored under a State Migration Plan you will be obliged to live and work in that state for 2 years.

The Australian Immigration website has loads of information on the visa pathway. As I say, for a positive skill assessment from CASA you will need to hold an Australian licence, this all the information you need for the process. I believe the Australian visa system changes in July to an expression of interest scheme which will lead to much longer waits for visas. Currently, if you are state sponsored, the visa issue process is as little as 1 month.

Cheers for that, a good bit of research to be done. Would be good to hear how people have completed a move from uk to oz in the airlines. Is it possible, if yes how have they managed it?
