KAL CCL B737NG Captain Contract Terms

Would appreciate advice from anyone 'been there' on a particular aspect of this contract please.

"Early Resignation: Korean Air apply a US$15,000 penalty payment as an offset against training costs, to any captain who leaves voluntarily within the first 12 months of service. After the first year, 3 months written notice is required for contract termination."

I'm considering this contract in the short term and wish to know how exactly they intend to try and enforce this 'bond', which seems absurd to me given I'm already rated. To clarify, should I leave before the 12 months were up it would be to a career airline with whom I would be unlikely ever to leave, thus negating any possible reference problems etc.

Thanks

I would think anything in this part of the world is not " sort term" as it takes ages to get the validations, training and approvals out of the way, realistically you would not fly within 3 months at a guess. I'm not sure how they can get this money if you leave, it maybe they already have it from you before you start! or if you go through an Agency they will just hold back your salary.. It is eay enough to check on this position with the likes of Rishworth..Salary for NG is reduced though while under training

If you leave within the first 12 mths & you do not feel you will ever require a reference/verification of hours flown, there is only 1 solution, instead of doing the decent thing & giving as much notice as possible, to then have non-payment of your last month salary, just time your days off back home to be concurrent with the salary arriving in your account & don't bother going back. Not very fair/professional/ honorable, but then again neither is "fining" someone $15K who could have any number of good reasons to terminate a contract early (from what I have heard there is no shortage of reasons with this bunch)
Same applies with the 3mths notice, if you feel you will not be able to give it, you know what to do. Don't suppose if you are terminated after 12mths service you will be handed 3 mths salary, so why they expect it from your side. Best of all probably is not to go in the 1st place if you can find alternatives.

Pretty much as expected, thanks for the replies guys.

This is indeed not my first option (actually it's the last), however there is a possibility it may play out as I described (should I get selected of course).

Safe flying all.
