d105, having spent 6 years in Ryanair I sympathise. I spent most of my time there trying to get colleagues "on-side" and doing what I could to try and get some representation.
Regretably then, as now, too many had their own agenda and could only see as far as their next base request/promotion to Capt, LTC or whatever.
I am not gloating at your situation whatsoever, it was mine, and indeed what happens to you happens to the rest of us, usually sooner rather than later.
Individual acceptance/acquiescence = the collective merde you are in.
The solution is very simple, but somehow always seems to be beyond reach.
Everytime something happens, those of us on the outside think "phew, that MUST be the last straw, surely they won't stand for that".
Regretably you do, and nothing changes. I offer this as an observation, if I had a solution I would offer that too, but by the end of my time there I realised I was just doing this as have so many before and after me.

says it all
d105
This statement says it all. None of the guys in Ryanair will ever get anywhere because everyone is only looking after No.1.
How many times have you lot been called up in the last month or two to work days off, especially skippers. They are really struggling to keep things on track over the summer season. This is going to be one of the few chances that you have to actually stand together and make even a small bit of headway.
we try to fend for ourselves as best as we can.

Areyouforreal I agree with your post especially that part that says
'This is going to be one of the few chances that you have to actually stand together and make even a small bit of headway'.
Pilots of ryanair the company is on its knees we need to strike now while the Iron is hot they declared war on us years ago as a workforce now we need to get togetheir.
However i dont agree that we are all out for ourselves recent events have shown this.On REPA etc it is the talking point, people are pissed off.
STAND UP AND FIGHT !!!
There is only 2 sides in this argument no fence

You can see why BALPA suggested dual basings should be "with crew member agreement". I feel more sorry for the CC anyone who lives near a FR base will regularly see CC standing at a bus stop as the monies so crap they can't afford a car. Got a few ctc's at the JAA the only consolation i can offer is i'll drop them a line........

What does sub part Q say about dual basings, 50km, 60mins?.
A colleague of mine got up at 3:15AM today for his drive to PMO, got back home at 6PM and will be up at 3:15AM to work tomorrow.
Everyone is exhausted after only 1 day, I need to sleep in the cruise.
3. Operators' responsibilities
3.1. An operator shall nominate a home base for each crew member.
3.2. Operators shall be expected to appreciate the relationship between the frequencies and pattern of flight duty periods and rest periods and give due consideration to the cumulative effects of undertaking long duty hours interspersed with minimum rest.
3.3. Operators shall allocate duty patterns which avoid such undesirable practices as alternating day/night duties or the positioning of crew members so that a serious disruption of established sleep/work pattern occurs.
3.4. Operators shall plan local days free of duty and notify crew members in advance.
3.5. Operators shall ensure that rest periods provide sufficient time to enable crew to overcome the effects of the previous duties and to be well rested by the start of the following flight duty period.
3.6. Operators shall ensure flight duty periods are planned to enable crew members to remain sufficiently free from fatigue so they can operate to a satisfactory level of safety under all circumstances.

Massive sick out by flight and cabin crew is the way to cure this problem. How many cabin crew can they get to locate to TPS on a moments notice.
There is a world out there besides FR.

For what it's worth, I travelled from Trapani to Palermo when I went on holiday to Sicily a few years ago.
I would not describe it as an 'easy drive' (straight down/up the M11 to Stansted, anyone?), or particularly 'commutable' for that matter. But then I didn't drive it at 03:30 to operate a 737 from Palermo airport. I was on holiday.
Hope those affected get the situation sorted.
