THY Direct entry Captains

Just booking myself a flight on Turkish Airlines and could see a link on their main site www.thy.com as an ad for direct entry A32X and B737 Captains with TT of 5000H aged 40-59

Could be a good opportunity for anyone laid off in current climate

Good luck

It could be a good opportunity if they actually hired anyone from the hundreds interviewed back in the beginning of the year.
Hate to say it, but my feeling is that expats are being used as pawns in a political game between unions and management.
Can anyone prove me wrong by confirming they have been employed ?
If so, would you care to share the package offered, as that seemed to be an unspoken secret. Strange I know, but no mention of what was on offer at interview stage.

Given that Wynnwith have about 2 ads a day on flightglobal.com for DEC on B737/A320/B777, I thought it might be nice to ask the question again.
Out of the hundreds(?) so far interviewed, have they actually hired anyone yet?
The deal seems to be about 7000€ (before tax) for 70hrs a month, if you do around 85hr expect about 9000€.
Roster sounds crap 5/2 6/1 5/2 6/1 6/1 . . 7 days off a month (sh1t if I work in an office I get 8 ! ) with only 18 days (not inc weekends) annual leave until 5 yrs of service, so only 3 and a half weeks holiday and no possibility to commute.

What total and utter sh1te from a national flag carrier.

Good luck !

Wait until you see some of the duties!

Friend of mine recently travelled with THY Istanbul to Lagos on a 737-800. He said the crew were doing a turnaround and heading straight back to Istanbul. That must be pushing 13 hrs block time! Looks like the Turks have a rather 'friendly' FTL system.

New negotiations gives you 4 days off in a row. Still improving. Also ID90 tickets.

MISTER GEEZER...

Did the same trip myself last year - and would have to say I was more than a bit surprised...

I would have thought 13 - 14 hours duty is just about ' do-able ' with a not too early am start and late pm finish....Think the UK and Scandanavian Charter crews out to SSH, etc....

But this THY Sector is something like 13.00 Report time and the return flight is overnight with an early am arrival back in Istanbul...

What might be a little insight into THY's approach to FTL's is that although FD Crew included a Red Stripe in a reserved seat in 'C' Class, the CC all had a two night HOTAC at the Sheraton.....

Since then, I've given them a fairly wide berth for my trips back home....

Or maybe, like the rest of us, the FD Crew prefer to spend as little time as possible in ' God's own country '...

As you said, seems like things are improving, readvertised today on flightglobal.com with "updated conditions", seems like not enough desperate high time guys out there after all

Have a colleague being interviewed soon, I'll post an update.

THY Contract

A friend has just forwarded a 'sample' THY contract as issued by Wynnwith; not sure if it represents the "updated" conditions.

Couple of interesting gems contained within the 33 conditions:-

13. The Employee will be obliged to indemnify THY A.O. for any and all losses, expenses, claims and damages suffered by THY A.O. due to the Employee’s negligence, fault or failure to comply with administrative directives.

22. The Employee declares and undertakes to make a lump sum payment of USD 7,500 (seven thousand and five hundred) against the training costs made for him at THY A.O. in case he resigns from THY A.O. on his
own will before the expiry of the term of this Agreement or in case the Agreement is terminated by THY A.O. for a justified reason. The interest which will be calculated over the highest banking foreign exchange interest rate and taxes will also be added on top of this indemnity. This indemnity will not be claimed in inadequacy for flight determined by THY A.O. on its own discretion, continual illness and death cases.

30. The Employee agrees to inform THY A.O. one or more of his telephone numbers (GSM) after the start of his employment (including informing of his new number in case of a change) which shall be accessible 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

Be interested to hear of any other feedback.

Perhaps some of the above, slightly draconian conditions, combined with 7000€ BEFORE tax and a cr@p roster = the reason why they have reposted this job daily for several weeks now.
Is this really the T's & C's in place for pre-existing Capt's, or are they just taking the p1ss?

The Idems posted above are parts of an Expat contract offer.
Expat & Local contract are different. "day & night"

One has to understand that THY is hiring expat dec's the first time in their fairly long history. They simply don't have any experience in that field. I've been told by some friends at THY that the inhouse pilot union is everything else but happy with this developement. Fact is that all these shiny new airplanes are coming and someone has to fly them as well. Communication is not that easy and it takes quite a while to get answers.
I applied way before the agency got involved and it took 9 month after my sim. check and interview to get any answers. I didn't go because the offer is simply not good enough (yet). It has been improved slightly but is still not good enough for crew members that meet all theses high requirements (incl. age).
Don't forget that there'll be no chance whatsoever to change fleets (e.g. long haul). IST is probably one of the most exciting cities in the world but can also be very expensive.
Pilots in Turkey are still allowed to log 1000hrs/yr. Single aisle fleets are operating 24/7 and rosters are changing frequently.
You can rent a studio for 500 $ close to the airport but you can also rent for 5000 $. It's IST - nothing is impossible! Cars are expensive, food is cheap and life is good if you have spare cash.
Everybody who's interested needs to understand that it will be very hard to commute. There're very good private schools (expensive) so if I do the math again I find about 2000 reasons to improve the package.
Best of luck.
