BALPA benefits
What i want to know is why does'nt BALPA and other unions have interline agreements in place for their members I ask this as on another thread in the forum i have found that people who dont work in the industry can get these perks so why not us guys who actually work in the industry, I know some guys do get these benefits but would be nice if opened to all.

Benefits of BALPA now let me think about that one......................................................... .............. yep that about sums it up. Oh there is one thing they did take a good chunk of my salary that I had no particular use for! And I got a nice lapel badge. Not a bad return for my £1200 a year. And they did manage to kill moral and create a confrontational atmosphere between pilots and management making life at work miserable! To sum up then about as much use as a fine pair of **** on a nun!

Absolutely believe it! Never been a union man but was conned that Balpa would make a differance, sadly it never did. The only differance was the 1%. the only ones that make a differance are the the reps that were working for the company in the first place. Its high time that pilots realise that no union will ever make a differance. If your a Ryan Air pilot hoping Balpa will be your holly grail your in for a massive dissapointment!

Wot? Are you thick or just doing a good impression of being a retard?
BALPA are your reps. If they are doing a good job, then that is the point. They can't do squat without the organised group behind them.
Unions aren't white knights on chargers, they are there to support the CC's who are members and employees.
I fear for our profession when I read stuff like this. I simply didn't realise how stupid most pilots actually are. No wonder people like O'Leary are laughing their heads off at the inability of most flight crew to see beyond the end of their noses.

Constructive leadership on important issues - business focused Balpa Company Council
The Pilots have a voice in collective, constructive, most often cost neutral negotiations
Legal cover that is second to none
They have made my company probably the best company in the world to be a part of, I am not kidding.
The tax relief you get on the subs makes it a particularly appealing. Good luck, getting the right Pilots on the CC makes for a strong, vibrant, career changing pilots airline.

If I am or not, is irrelevant, the point is still the same. However, do I pay BALPA any money every month though? Nope I don't.
Pilots are a self serving bunch who seem incapable of grasping even simple industrial relations concepts.
I might call someone an idiot, but be assured management teams call us all far worse and use it to their advantage, as they know there is naff all anyone is going to do about it.
Easy pickings for a determined management team bent on cost cutting at any cost to the workforce.
Great innit.

I was a dutiful BALPA member for a long time ...
Over the years a quit and rejoined (over specific issues) like many people, but I feel that I've been shafted several times now.
The company I work for made redundancies at the end of January 09, and we have not had a single communique from the BALPA CC since that day.
Our company CC reps are hard working, but from what I can see, they get NO support from BALPA main, to the point where their principal negotiator (Kashmir the useless) doesn't even turn up for meetings.
I for one have had entirely enough, for me it's time to bang out.
Pilots (as someone said above) are their own worst enemy, but being a BALPA member won't stop us being a bunch of numpties.
In my opinion, BALPA simply take the money and take the p1ss

They were very good when a friend of mine had a problem overseas and the company did virtually nothing, but BALPA did , got him a lawyer, somewhere to live etc. Wouldnt have been in an airline career without them myself.

One thing is for sure the airlines without a voice are the worst off in the UK
Better to have a collective voice than not and if you feel strongly about developments get elected to the company council

Since some of you are rabidly anti-BALPA and your shrieking is deafening, a word is merited from me. I have been a BALPA member only, not an official, for over 38 years. Worth it? You betcha! I was involved in company redundancy interviews within the last year. Completely unapproached and unasked for, BALPA contacted me offering significant assistance, which was declined, with thanks. I have seen too many desperate non-members in trouble and trying to get benefit of BALPA membership and protection after the event. For the security and peace of mind, help and advice I have got over the years, membership has been well worth it. I have seen non-members riding along (free) over the years getting all the benefits negotiated (and paid for) by their member colleagues. It's a bitter pill that must be swallowed by all those that pay for representation.
It's a free country. If you are adamant you don't want to be a member, that is your democratic right not to (and still benefit from your colleagues efforts for nothing!). It is not your right to say some of the rubbish you have put up here! I will be a full member until the day of my retirement, then I will be a retired member for life (£24 pa I believe). The Association is actually very little occupied with industrial strife issues- it does a massive amount in all other aviation areas.
