I flew a corporate BBJ where the crew was treated better than the VIPs that we flew. We travelled to 6 continents around the world for 3 years. Nothing less than 1 bedroom suites at 5 start hotels, food, limousines, excellent pay, and benefits. It wasn't a job... it was always a vacation.

Then one day the value of the company took a nose dive at Mach 2.5, and the next thing the jet was sold, and we were ferrying the jet to its new owner. However, our pay and benefits continued to the end of the year, I believe 7 months without any reduction. They were a true class operation.

The best...

I recall a buddy of mine...
Flying F/O or co-Captain on a private DC8-63 or 73...
That was the 1980s...
Was based in Malaga, Spain, 5-star hotel suite...
Car with driver available - food and drinks included - phone calls...
Owner of airplane was Adnan Kashoggi - a Saudi VIP/Minister...
Salary was high - never told me "how much" - he said "higher than airlines"...
Back then, the US$ was twice as high as it is now...
xxx
Hardly ever flew the airplane - maybe 100/200 hrs a year (?) -
Destinations: Orlando, Bali, Bangkok, Rio de Janeiro...
Dubai - To go to the gold souk, buy some gifts for the ladies.
Jeddah/Riyadh as little as needed (no whisky there).
And Geneva or Zurich, to get some cash from the bank.
Finally Washington to shake hands with Kissinger.
xxx
The crew was "standby" at all times, or almost...
This created a problem of landings currency -
"Hey Boss - We need to go to simulator, for 3 landings..."
"Oh - Why dont you fly the plane, and do a few touch-and-goes...?"
xxx
All has an end... Kashoggi fell in disfavor of world politics and his king.
I was told that the airplane ended in Connie Kalitta's fleet.
They installed a cargo door - The luxury interior became scrap metal.
But I think my buddy went to fly for ARAMCO, the DC8-72...
xxx
Happy contrails - Insh'Allah
