MONARCH holding pool....
Who else is bobbing up and down in the pool and how long have you been in it? Any more news on course dates?
I've been in the pool since Sep 07.

Been in since late 2007. I thought they were very nice people, will be staying where I am for now, but no harm to have a first glimpse at the airline via a very human, no tricks interview. I have read 'dirty washing' here about Monarch, but having talked with pilots currently serving, and those who have been there, they are thumbs up.
Good luck to them I say, and if people are staying, then take it as a good point. If you are in a pool for them, you are known to them, and future opportunities when they open up will be so much more accessible.

Easy and Mon pools.
I was interviewed for Mon in the summer and then for Easy in Nov.
Easy came up with an offer within a week, I'm rated and current on the 737, but still unsure if I'm going to move yet.
Mon would have been nice but I think I was to specific with what base I wanted.

Did they ask you during the interview which fleet you prefer?
As our 757's are all MAN and LGW based (at this moment). However if you prefer the FBW fleet than LTN or BHX would be a good option.
But unfortunately we haven't taken on a lot of people this year and it's difficult to predict whats going to happen next year. They are talking (last three years) about 2 757's and 1 A320 leaving the fleet later this year. But this can change every day. However if they decide to remove these aircraft from the fleet than next years intake will be minimal, if any at all.
Best of luck with your decision.

At the present time there are no particular announcements of significant fleet expansion or reductions. The economic situation with regard to cost pressures (fuel costs, taxes, credit availability ) are well publicised and likely to result in most carriers consolodating their existing positions.
Most recruiting for this summer season is probably complete. However there is always a small amount of movement caused by people leaving to join other companies, long term sickness and retirements. The latter is normally anticipated in the previous winters recruitment numbers, and the former are to some extent also "guesstimated" into that recruitment drive. However any unforseen or unexpected change in the numbers might generate a need for additional numbers this late in the training cycle. It certainly wouldn't be the first time that has happened.
In this industry events can quickly reshape future plans, but the near to mid term outlook given the current status quo is probably small scale recruitment in line with current market projections over the next 12 to 24 months.

Makes sense. It sounds that the downturn is taking shape. Still wondering whether consumers behavior is going to be significantly affected as a result of this mortgage crisis...

Bleeds, three new A321s on the fleet this year, two are now on line and crewed the last one is arriving In late Aug / early Sept which won't be crewed until next year, so don't expect any more demand for pilots this year unless there is an unforeseen requirement. Expect a small amount of recruitment early next year maybe 10 -15 positions. But everything could be different tomorrow so worth updating your application regularly.
