Interested in the salary package at Dragonair. How does the 747 freighter contracts compare to the mainline 330/320/321 pilots based in Hong Kong ?
Have any of the new 747 pilots calculated an approximate nett £ earnings per annum ?
Answers here or feel free to email me.
I am not interested in confrontation or negative comments, just the facts if possible ?
Regards, sevensixer.

Thanks Fly747. When will the 743 come out into the real world ? When will the second 743 be ready to join the line ?
It is difficult to calculate the package then I gather. I guess it all hinges on where you pay tax, and what components are tax free vs taxable ? Any approximate caculations ? Does between £3000 - £3500 nett per month sound reasonable ?

763,
The UK tax rules are quite clear. If you are based in the UK you are working in the UK and you will have to pay UK tax. It does not matter what nationality you may be or where the company (Dragonair in this case) is headquartered.
I hope that is clear.
Furthermore yes you only pay 15% tax in Hong Kong, but you have to pay another 1.5% tax on top of that for your housing allowance (as a minimum - if you do not have to pay tax on the housing allowance amount itself) and you get no personal or family tax allowances at all. It is not PAYE so you get a large tax bill to be paid all at once.

763,
My post is based on my experience of working in Hong Kong and in the UK. A helpful tax advisor would give you advice but the best advice would be from a UK tax office. They can be quite helpful.
The best one to ask would be the Manchester tax office who would be dealing with your case. You can find them out from the UK yellow pages or white pages over the internet.
The only way for you to avoid UK tax would be to live outside of the UK with a maximum of 90 days allowed in the UK in any tax year.
