There is of course the chance of going straight onto the 737,
with the industry in the position that it is (certainly within Europe) those chances are increased, however it is certainly not the norm to get onto the 737 at the first time of asking.

I have been lucky enough to get my first job on the 737, but I took the decision to pay for my own type rating. It was an educated gamble I would say, that happened to pay off, however without that extra training, I certainly do not think I would have landed my first job yet.

Flight training is a gamble, most of us do have large debts to manage so it is a decision not to be taken lightly, however if you are like me and flying is all you have ever wanted to do, go for it and donīt look back

I wouldnīt worry too much just yet about the salary on offer at Easy etc if / when you get a job on the 737 etc in the UK you will find out exactly for yourself. When that time comes, you wonīt be able to live like Wayne Rooney, but you will have more than enough to get by

Get looking into CTC and other ab-initio programmes and seek advice from as many people as possible, most will be more than willing to help

Try looking at the British Airline Pilots Association BALPA website.

On the left of the homepage is a 'How to become a pilot link'. It will give you alot of the information you, as a 15 year-old potential pilot, should know.

kiwi chick i must say am a bit fed up with this attitude towards people that go straight to a jet.
you are showing it s you the one that has to do some homework and some research on how aviation works in many countries.
Companies like BA, Air France, Lufthansa, Klm ecc ecc ecc ecc sponsor young pilots and put them straight into a 737 or a 320 (trust me if theyre there it s because they have proven they are able to get to standard quickly..)..you must know better then them though..

I wouldnt mind how i become a jet pilot, just as long as i do I am not botherd at all on the money side of it, if i was payed minimum wage for being a pilot i would still love to do it as its a job i have always wanted to do, the money is just an extra added bonus!

While you're a 15 year old lad (like myself), I suppose money isn't at the forefront of your worries, but I'm sure as Sam progresses up the ladder he will think twice about being exploited as a wannabe desperate for a job, especially with the amount of debt you would have after paying for training- I'm sure that sometimes flying for a 'minimum wage' simply isn't a financially viable option. I think that with the amount of training and the cost of it, flying for a minimum wage shouldn't be the case- afterall, you aren't just glorified bus drivers like a certain MOL would have everyone believe! (Isn't he retiring within a few years anyway!?)

Sorry i think what i said came accross wrong! What i was trying to say was if pilots were payed minimum wage (which they are obviously not, but say they all were) i would still want to be a pilot. However, as pilots are generally well payed i would not work for minimum wage!

I just spoke to a dear friend of mine who was flying 737's for years, and he said it's a piece of piss to fly.
