Flybe

Hello everyone,

Can anyone who is currently working for Flybe help in answering some of the following questions:

1) What's the roster like including days off?
2) Apporx number of hours per year?
3) Type rating bonds - how long?
4) F/O salary (net approx. figures would be grateful please)?
5) Pension scheme if any and other benefits?
6) Any payment given to you during training i.e during Type course
7) Assessment.. details on interview/sim check please...

8) oh most importantly whats the company like to work for as a pilot in your view?

How about a search. If your search doesn't give the information you desire, then I'll endeavour to help....

Yes, and LOL, flight pay (taxed, unfortunately, at the moment) plus...
6) Any payment given to you during training i.e during Type course
Salary and duty pay, plus payed HOTAC and transport
7) Assessment.. details on interview/sim check please...
It's been too long for me to comment about the current stuff

8) oh most importantly whats the company like to work for as a pilot in your view?
My view, pretty good. I think that in the LoCo's the grass is the same colour green wherever you look, others will say differently I guess

Hi,
I believe flybe is a pretty good company to work for with a positive outlook.
You probably work quite hard, but because of the expansion you have good career opportunities. A good stepping stone.

Not sure if you will have to work too hard. I recently left the q400 fleet, but in the time I was there I averaged about 650 hours a year. Like snigs, I think that the company is ok, although others will have differing views.

Progression to 195?

I know the E195 is still a growing fleet but over the next 2/3 years what do most FO pilots currently on the Q400 see as the time to progression onto the E195?

Has the company given any information on this...

Unfortunately the E195 will be a comparitvely small fleet size when compared to the Q400 (something of the order of 15 - 20 ships vs 60 -70 when all orders are received), that coupled with the fact that many current flight crew members want to jump across to the new machine mean that you'll be at the end of a fairly long line of guys and girls more senior than yourself. You can increase your chances by agreeing to go to any base at the company's descretion, but as things stand I've heard of a couple of cases where people have hopped across after 18 months or so on the Q400, although I suspect that this is set to get longer as time passes.

When I was there on the Q400 the company hired in direct entry FOs to the Bae146, by-passing myself and fellow FOs who then became 'stuck' on the turboprop. It worked out fine though as they did pay us the jet salary, while the new guys on the 146 were on the turboprop salary.....All those 'stuck' FOs have now left, bonded somewhere else now

Strange really, never thought that the flying tractor was much of an airplane anyway but then, that's speaking from vast ignorance and prejudice. It's probably far too speedy for the likes of this old cat.
Mind you though, in the days of JW himself, the company always seemed to have an over inflated idea as to the vicarious attraction of the royal wellyplane for pilots. If you wanted to fly the 146 you had to base in Belfast for ever. Nothing wrong with that in theory except that shortly after this the company decided to ban jump seat positioning for crews. That's all changed too now of course.
Has anyone any inkling as to whether Flybe take on ancient, out of practice, non type rated skippers on the turbo fleet? It might provide an excellent training ground for new FOs, always having to exercise diplomacy in reminding the recruit into Alzheimer's of that which he has so recently forgotten. Their learning curve could be sharp, damned sharp, save the day by a close run thing, to paraphrase Wellington. Having asked that, where would one go to brush up for Flybe's particular simulator check, were that eventuality ever to arise? Perhaps a pm might be necessary for that, if someone would please be so kind, it don't do to be seen to be touting for business!
Cheerio and good luck and, by the way, Flybe sound just like any other UK regional turbo/baby jet operator. Mind you though, there was one such airline of one's close experience where the operations manager used to rewrite the voyage reports, excising any mention of discretion or whatever else might raise an eyebrow at the CAA - or so it was rumoured, at any rate.

Q400 to E195

All depends on base, but perfectly possible within 18 months of joining as a newbie FO. Just be careful what you wish for.

You would probably stand more chance of getting a Short Haul Command with the "Worlds Favourite Airline" than getting on the Barbie Jet.

No of hrs per year?

On average for Q400 FOs how many hours per year do you do?

The figures of 650 was mentioned in an earlier post would most agree with this?

ps... perhaps this could depend on your base but just looking for an updated rough idea

Absolutely, it does depend on where you are. I hear some Q400 F/Os are doing as little as 450 - 500 hrs per year at some bases whilst others, myself included, are closer to 800 - 850 hrs per year.
