ID-Travel / Shuttling with Tfly
Hi there!
I am trying to find out, what it would be like to work for Thomsonfly and shuttle from Germany.
Besides the staff travel options stated on ppjn.com, are there any ID-agreements with other airlines?
Has anybody of you made experiences shuttling from Germany?
Are there any Germans at Thomsonfly anyway?
Thanks for your answers!

Thomsonfly
There are one or two germans (afterall, that's who we are now managed by) however, maybe I have read your post wrong but in our contract it states that you must live within 75 mins of the airport you are based at. You can not 'commute' from the continent (unfortunately).
There are one or two pilots (from abroad) that have a property nearby and live there during working days / standby days but go home on days off.
There are only really the agreements within the TUI network but you don't get those until in the company for 1 year.
Hope this helps !!!

Thank you, waffles - helped a lot!
I was also thinking about going home on my off days as often as possible. Based at LGW or LTN, I imagined this not to be too stressful.
Since Thomsonfly and LCCs won't get me to a major airport in Germany, it would not only be stressful, but way too expensive...
Well - I have to pass the tests first, anyway - but it is good to know what to expect in advance.
Thanks again!

Just a thought, we also have interline agreements with other carriers, so it's possible to get ID90 s.
I've never tried using them and understand that even ID90 s can be pretty expensive.
Might be worth checking out.

I have been working for Britannia/Tfly for over 3 years and certainly did a lot of commuting.
I used Easy, BA, Baby and anybody who could fly me from my home. Much better than ID80 that we get through the company on BA flights.
Other advantage of being on a firm seat: You are a real customer, not a low life Standby as some ground staffs like to remind you.
Lots of commuters at Tfly/Britannia. From France, Germany, Spain, Scandinavia. All have some kind of house they rent/stay in during duty days, Standbys etc... Personally what I do during my days off is none of Tfly's business. If I chose to spend time on an aeroplane flying to my sunny, warm home (and cool pool ), that's my prerogative.
Just like If I leave near Luton but I am Gatwick based. In theory it is within 75 minutes from base but at most time of the day, it is impossible to realise it.
If during my hypothetical days off whilst living at LTN, I can perfectly drive to Cornwall... Nothing the company can say about it. Just like my commuting.
