Life at Thomas Cook

I'm currently working for a turbo prop outfit and am looking for something better. I'm very keen on working for Mr Cook. Does anyone know if they plan to recruit again this year. I've seen previous threads before. Some good, some bad. But I'm aware you'll never find a 100% happy workforce. I know time 2 command is 10/12 years. What happens in the winter when it's quieter? What's the average take home pay for FO and SFO? How long before you can fly the Canada routes B757 and which fleets would they generally recruit onto.

Thanks guys and girls

Bumpy,

Yes, I believe we will need more pilots later this year. However, we are currently taking on 4 GECAT cadets for the summer which is proving somewhat interesting.

This year, we took on about 30 guys. 16 or so were permanent, 4 GECAT and the rest were borrowed USA FO's from an airline we have an arrangement with in USA.

I have been here 5 years. It is no exaggeration to say that relations between pilots and some managers is at an all time low. BALPA are involved all the time seemingly.

Time to command will be nearer 15 years for new starters. There is no expansion of such and there are lots of young Captains.

Pay for year 1 SFO is about £2900 a month incl allowances.

Thanks Stansdead.

Just a few other questions. With the relationship between pilots & management as it is and seen other post regarding F/O's leaving - could time to command be reduced?

What do most guys do for the winter schedule and what fleet did the new recruits go on to?

Cheers

Hi Bumpy,

The long and short of it is that life at TC is really no different than at all the other charter airlines. The management and flight crew are somewhat at odds due to the company trying to make extra cash to make the books look good for sale, by cutting costs rather than expanding and making new money.

Time to comand will not change that much due to leavers unless TC expands, as the company will always look for cheap options like cheap internal commands.

The truth is that a lot of guys have thier CV in at Virgin or the likes, and will go sooner rather than later.

And yes the grass is greener Stan.

I'll call you soon Stan, promise.
