As usual, management greed and self-interest prevails.
Unfortunately for MS JP and PT, in their attempts to perpetuate this state of affairs the chickens have started to come home to roost - sub-charters, cancelled flights, rumours of uncrewable new aircraft... and its only the beginning of April!
The resignations continue apace, the positioning of crew around the network by taxi is being ramped up, both cabin crew and pilot Unions are hinting at industrial action, yet after 10 years this Company has learned nothing about how to engender good morale and loyalty from its staff.
The "tipping point" has been reached - if this summer turns out to be the shambles that many are predicting, then there may yet be blood spilt in the boardroom - starting with flight ops management.

Whilst I agree with very many of the comments above it is perhaps worth quaifying the whole debate by noting that, for the last 6 or 7 years at the start of the summer period, there have been suggestions of uncrewed aircraft and resignataions galore bringing gloom, doom and disaster yet somehow the season passes each time.
The current difficulties have little to do with all that....................it's just to do with what's right!

So, Flaps, you think this season will pass just the same? Whenever have easyJet done "whats right"?
They just do what they think they can get away with, and in the past Balpa have let them - its market forces thats making a re-think, so let's not let Balpa start taking too much credit just yet.

Tax Free sector Pay
Hello Dear friends, I do excuse myself in advance if my query is not related to this thread however I need some help. I fly for a small EU carrier not Uk and I am trying to make some research for my council on how the tax free sector pay has been broken through with your IR dept.
I would be glad if maybe one of your Union commitee execs can PM me.
Thanks in advance

Balpa has not let them do it in the past as you suggest. The fence-sitters with deep pockets who refused to join in let it happen. The people that did nothing let it happen. Things are quite different now.
Furthermore, I don't necessarily think that this season will pass just the same as before. That is not what I said. I merely pointed out that the same thing has been said many years over on this and other sites. Remember Carmen rostering when a particular flight made headlines on News at Ten after the pax staged a sit-in when the crew went out of hours!!!
What happens this year will be totally dependent on the resolve of the the pilot membership of Balpa and the attitude of the company if/when matters come to a head.
With any luck, heads will roll and we can then all play football with them as a prelude to the World Cup!

FlapsOne, I hope so! Yes, I remember Carmen, but it'll be carnage this summer if they don't get their collective heads out of the sand very soon.
The latest priceless memo from MS suggests to me that he/others just might have been told to sort things out or else - unfortunately his little bit of fiddling won't stop Rome burning this summer - I bet Hallmark are rubbing their hands together in anticipation!

.......................unil we get completely fed up and then it's a strke ballot.
To be honest, we are not far from that now. If nothing positive comes out of the next couple of meetings (max) then the time will be here!

DO told an SEP course on Friday that they'd reached agreement with Balpa.
In the meantime its all started to fall apart with sub-charters, positioning by taxi, cancelled flights - about time that middle management were made accountable for their abysmal performance.
More resignations today.

I doubt it.
Just a reminder of the rumour - 4% now plus a further 2% (which is "instead of" a further 2% on the pension) plus 4% in October, ie a two year deal worth just over 10% of the current basis, or just over 8% plus a 2% pension uplift.
Apparently the management have refused to give in to an out-and-out uplift to the pension, therefore one has the option of using the "extra" 2% to enhance their pension contribution.
Won't address the chronic (100 pilots!) shortage of crew though...

If that turns out to be the true offer then I'll accept it. Slightly more than 10% is good in my book.
What do the more militant on here want? 15%, 20% or 30%? I detect some quite militant tones on the BALPA board.
Personally I'll save my militancy for the rostering battle.

Fifty above, that's exactly what I've heard as well.
And like Orange Peel I would be quite happy with that, as long as there is no funny bits to go with it. Just a straight payrise with no trade off for something else. Then it's a yes from me. Anything less than that and it's no.

For what it is worth, I too would sign up to the alleged 10% deal if it is true. Over the last few weeks I have come to realise that if we are going to strike then pay is simply not the issue to do it over. The issue of DECs being promoted over the top of our fully-qualified FOs would be right at the top of the list along with rostering and base transfer policy.
To put this in perspective, we were assured of 100+ internal promotions this year and that no one need worry about the DECs as no one would be disadvantaged. Those 100+ promotions have turned out to be total fantasy but the DECs have not! People who are worrying about 1 or 2% on the pay deal need to realise that the potential loss of earnings to an FO who does not get promoted, apart from his/her personal frustration, is tens of thousands of pounds. This simply cannot be allowed to continue - we must get this sorted.
Once again, if the rumours are to be believed then the Company Council are to be congratulated along with all the members of BALPA who have stood shoulder to shoulder in a long and difficult battle against some totally unscrupulous individuals. This victory, if true, is probably the best pay offer obtained in any British company this year. If you consider that a few months ago with low BALPA membership the company was trying to give us a pay rise below inflation whilst awarding vast bonuses to wasters in easyLand then we have come a long way. We now have a very significant BALPA percentage membership and have won a very significant victory. Maybe BALPA do have something to offer after all.
