howzit at Monarch?
Need to escape from Easyjet and I have Monarch in my sights.
Hopefully my Airbus rating will be an advantage.
Anyone in Monarch care to state likes/dislikes at MON.
Also are there people from Monarch who are in holding pools elsewhere. I can't possibly imagine there are people in pools for Easy/Ryan
Thanks for your help

Despite your bus rating, if you stick out for it, you should get 757/A300. If you join on the 320, you'll have a work pattern like Easy with plenty of taxis thrown in. Anyway you'll have no sector pay and a very poor pension to boot. Loads are very poor, so don't plan on any job security.

Re: howzit at Monarch?
Nite flyer,
I have no idea where ECam is based but where I am based the loads are reasonable for this time of year and pretty much every scheduled flight was 90% full in the summer.
The way I see it is that it is predominantly a happy ship. Yes the final salary pension issue is a bit of a sore one but for the new boys (and girls) it’s not part of the equation as you don't sign up to it in the first place. If there is one thing that really gets under my skin it people who sign a contract and then complain about it!!!! Put it this way - the grass is always greener. If you don't like it - leave! Oh btw I haven’t heard of anyone leaving for pastures new in the last 12 months.
Your Airbus rating will obviously stand you in good stead but as far as I am aware the company has now completed its last round of recruitment and I haven't heard of any further recruitment.
All the best,
BP.

Must say I agree with Blighty Pilot. Not sure where E cam gets his info from, but it's not been my experience what he says.
MON is not perfect, but there does seem to be more movement from ej to mon that the other way round. In my books, that says something.
Cheers

Re: howzit at Monarch?
The above two postings make the point that Monarch is very variable with base/fleet. Some people, especially LTN A330/A300/Boeing are quite happy with their 500-700 hours per year, long haul life-style and winter off. Ask a MAN A320/1 pilot how he/she feels about the 899 hours per year, plus taxis and almost no voyage allowances.

Thanks for the replies.
I had heard b4 that the A320 guys in MAN are being maxed out. Shame cos thats where I want to be based.
Personally I still think its way better then Easyjet. Sure the money is better at Easy but 4 sector days EVERY day is taking its toll.

Re: howzit at Monarch?
It is hard for the Man pilots but at least there is the possibility of a change of lifestyle with the 330 or other fleets in the future. With Easy thats it for life.
Re: howzit at Monarch?
I too am interested in escaping easyJet and have been considering Monarch, but at present I am only rated on the 737. Does having the bus make a lot of difference for a MAN base? I should, incidentally, get the bus ticket later this year.

Re: howzit at Monarch?
757 Manipulator - that link mentions total pax carried, not load factor. More 'planes have been added. If you want to make a point, may I suggest you get your facts sorted out!

Re: howzit at Monarch?
My point is..
i.e. there are two points of view ..just look at the other posts
Where did I say loads were high?..did I mention anything thats not quoted on the website?
You then make the assumption of poor loads...where did you get that from? one post from someone with an axe to grind?..or do you know more than you let on? if so please share (rather than argue semantics)
As for the expectation of low fares...Monarch Scheduled is a LOW COST carrier
Oh yeah and Im as dim as dishwater

Agreed. That link does not mention yeald. Only total pax. Monarch would never reveal such information. As loads appear to be poor, I would not expect fares to be high, would you?

Re: howzit at Monarch?
I joined Monarch last year and can say that it is predominantly happy. There are one or two disgruntled as in every airline, but this is primarily due to penaion upheavals. As a new joiner the pension is cr@p but that is no different to most UK airlines these days.
As for MAN crews being maxed out - that is true, and that is why the Company are trying to recruit specifically for this base, to spread the load. So don't be afraid to join due to the high hours there - they are likely to lessen in the next 12 months (hopefully).
I have enjoyed it up until now and have dual long-haul / short-haul to look forward to also. I wouldn't swap it for a job with EJ.
