Ryanair Pilot Salaries Rise to EUR 189,000 (yea!!??)
Here's a bit of news I just picked up. For some unknown reason Ryanair has decided to announce substantial pay rises in, of all places, Bulgaria:
Now a really cynical and long-time Ryanair watcher might be very suspicious about this. Maybe it's just a repeat of old tricks ....
1. We have a pilot shortage (which leads to cancelled flights, but which for P.R. purposes we will blame on Boeing),
2. We will need contractors in the immediate term and some longer-term captains. None of the usual places are providing us with enough innocents, so we will cast our net wide.
3. To get the word around, start the rumour about fantastic salaries. Get press stories, such as the above, to do you communicating for you.
4. Whittle down the salaries using the usual tricks (at interview you mention the big figures as being possible - then you move to the contract stage where the unwitting will miss subtle changes like reduced sector pay, etc. When they sign up you can then do your "mistakes in the contract" trick to do some more erosion.... etc, etc.).
5. Repeatedly and loudly remind everbody that queries this that Ryanair have the best paid airline pilots in Europe.
6. Say nothing about the multitude of pilots recruited in the past year who are loafing around WITHOUT PAY for up to 9 months awaiting line training (but whose money for their type rating was taken on the spot when they joined).
7. Is this not the most sophisticated airline in the pilot scam business we have ever seen?
"Bulgarian Airplane Pilots Eye Lucrative Spots Abroad
Many Bulgarian pilots are tempted by lucrative offers from foreign air carriers, reports claim.
Low-cost airlines like WizzAir and RyanAir are looking to hire qualified staff and their offers seem attract the interest of many Bulgarians, local Trud daily newspaper claims.
RyanAir have posted a pilot recruitment add on their website, promising yearly pay for captains of between EUR 145,000 and EUR 189,000.
This is far better than what the pilots could ever get in Bulgaria, the newspaper calculates, and fears are that the country may soon experience a lack of qualified flyers."

CAPTAINNIC your friend did well and should be contratulated. Some people actually do negotiate well with Ryanair (especially some of the contractors). The money while waiting for line training is .... well ... like "cream on the cake". But I have never heard of this happening before - he wouldn't be a secret member of the wider O'Leary murphia by any chance?

yes, he is a contract captain. and he waited about 3 month for line training.
and i would like to meet and great the one, making 189000 euros in a year!
realistically speaking a ryr skipper takes home about 5000 £ or 8500$ after tax. which is ok money, but those guys do work hard and have a lot artificial, company induced stress...

Captainnic,
Very true it is an airline where all of the pilots are effectively contractors, as they have no benefits at all other than getting paid slightly more than others.
Highest pay? yeah for the hardest work, longest hours and no benefits, not to mention some arrogant arsehole direct entry line trainers!

Well, a friend of mine went for a CP interview. Having been told that he would not pay for rating he payed for flight, hotel and rental car to go to EMX... Once he pitched up it was a new deal being offered... He stood up and told them it was BS and wanted to walk away....he was then persuaded to stay for the day....interviewer was on msn chatting while my friend was in the room... Few days (week?) later he was offered the job...still had to pay rating (18 000 euros??) .... So he told them to F off....

5000 hours total. 2500 on 737, 1000 lhs. Well they wanted to bond me for 5 years, £10,000 for an NG rating, even though I have the rating and 600 hours in NG. Told them I wasn't interested in being bonded so a week later they told me I was unsuccessful! Scruffy little pikey doesn't like anyone answering back.
