I truly don't understand their selection process. Had the sim and performed as per Instrument Rating standards in terms of departure, airway, arrival and approach. Got 4 whites after getting visual and went around, as you should. Next approach again to IR standards and landing. TRE: "yes, not a lot of feedback to give you really, that was all nicely done. Pleasure to meet you! Hopefully I'll see you again soon"

Week later: thanks but no thanks.

Airbus/Boeing rated, 3500 hours, all LPC/OPCs rated above average or very good.

I give up...

Permafrost - I feel for you, I really do. There is nothing worse than feeling like you've done a good job and then not getting the job. Worst of all is not knowing WHY!! Feedback pleeease. Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago.

For whatever reason BA and you are not suited and on that basis it is probably for the best that you didn't go there. At least it makes the BA/Easy decision for you!!

Permafrost if it is any consolation I have heard nigh on an identical thing happen to someone else at the BA sim stage.

all LPC/OPCs rated above average or very good.
I could have printed and shown the same but they aren't interested in you, they are interested in whether you are the right 'peg' for their 'hole'. I'd have thought the sim is more an assessment of your fit within their laminated text book dream team than of your flying - especially for those that were borderline previously. It is a tool for them to find out - hence the reason they do it on a type that 99.99999999999999% haven't flown before.

The fact that BA do not give feedback is absolutely appauling. The fact that they ask for feedback is laughable.

Put it behind you, apply again if you feel it is still the right company and again I will re-iterate - it is no assessment of your suitability to be an airline pilot, how well you fly or how much fun you are on a day out. It is a case of can you guess what is on their laminated sheet and be like it, did you manage to sleep well the night before, are you firing on all cylinders on the day, are you fortunate enough to be interviewed by someone you gel with, are you Politically correct for BA and were you born to be BA.

Never give up but by all means decide to stop based on the facts......

For anyone who has made it into the talent pool, how long has the wait been to get a final start date?
I said earlier in the posts, and it is from the horses mouth, for people interviewing early Jan they were estimating a course start date in June/July.

Absurd, how definitive do you want? Phone up BA and ask them for an estimate if my information isn't good enough for you.

Permafrost, almost exactly the same as what happened to me at the back end of last year.

Both I and my sim partner thought the sim went well, both our flying sectors were well handled with very positive remarks from the instructor and we worked extremely well together.

Although I didn't make it in, thankfully my sim partner did, so at least we weren't both gutted when the emails were sent out.

Things tend to happen for a reason, maybe right place wrong time, or I'm just not right for them and them not right for me?

Good luck to the rest of you.

Hi All.

Has anyone been to a interview lately and is the format still consistent with Green Army's experience?

A bit demoralizing to hear people getting call backs to the sim and getting a "No, thanks" after doing well.

I can only agree with those who have called for BA to give some feedback.
Something simple as in the line of, good work but sim not up to our standard or. We felt you were lacking some experience/ team skills and so on... oh well

i too buggered up the sim a couple of years ago, but it seems BA have changed their policy?

copy of email;

Dear ******

Thank you for attending the recent SIM assessment for the position of Direct Entry Pilot Scheme (Hold Pool) Shorthaul/Longhaul.

After careful consideration we are sorry to advise you that on this occasion your application was unsuccessful. We appreciate that this will be a disappointment to you but we would like to reassure you that our decision has not been made without great deliberation.

If you would like to receive feedback on your performance during the SIM assessment, please contact ************ on ***********

May we take this opportunity of thanking you for the time you have given us and for the interest you have shown.

Yours sincerely

Sim success notification to getting a start date is about 2 weeks, give or take a few days.

I am clinging to a vague, vague hope you were being sarcastic. If I am wrong, I feel very sorry for the the guys who spent those 19,000 hours sitting next to you...

Why, don't you respect high standards?

Or do you prefer - No problem Bloggs; well, a little high and fast at times, too slow at others, and we had to go around; but hey, who cares!

What do you think the % is of failed approaches in BA?

I have no firm data, but I would guess less than 0.1% and possibly much lower. So if you fail to land your approach in the sim test what sort of impression do you think that gives?

Blue Riband,

You're out of line. In BA there are frequent Flight Management reminders that it is always better to go-around than attempt to 'rescue' a rushed or high-energy approach.

What makes you the expert?

19000hrs - wow! That's a lot of time sat in the cruise 'cos you don't get those hours hauling one's posterior around on 45 min sectors. 4 landings a month in LH isn't it (if lucky and stabilised everytime, of course)?

OK Blue Riband, you may have served a long and decent apprenticeship - but you asked for it with a comment like that.

I would have thought that going around during a sim check when unstable says an awful lot about that person's highly professional and disciplined attitude to safety. Especially during a sim check, I think probably indicates traits of a confidant and assertive personality.

In short, indicative of high standards, not at odds with it.
