Gulf Air medical
I though I saw in another thread that Gulf Air does not have an initial medical examination for its new hires? The only requirement is to have a First Class medical (though the website does not say which organization, CAA 1st class, FAA 1st class)?

Upon joining new-hires undergo a physical at the GF clinic in Bahrain.
It is administered by DGCAM certified doctors and nurses. (DGCAM is the Omani "FAA").
Eye test, Blood, urine, general examination.
I guess that if you got a 1st class from either FAA or CAA, you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Actually NTM, the FAA is a LOT more lenient than other groups! Let me put it this way: Even though I pass the FAA 1st class medical (restriction: must wear corrective lenses (glasses/contact lenses) ), I would never be able to pass the CAA First Class medical!

DGCAM medical similar to FAA. and gov't medical for the country you're based in...basically looking for infectious diseases...tuberculosis, HIV, Hep-B...etc etc...DGCAM bit more thorough on BP and related issues...not the military "designed to fail you" type medical by any means..but not a pencil-whip job either...

That may be, however, let me put it this way. I fail the audiogram in my left ear. The only way I got the 1st class med with the FAA is that their minimum requirement is that you be able to hear a whisper voice from six feet away with back turned to examiner.
For the UK CAA, that whisper rule holds only for the 3rd class medical. I could not obtain the 2nd/1st class medical due to failing the audiogram in one ear.
I'm sure in regards to audiograms, the DGCAM is just as strict as the UK CAA. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, for the DGCAM a machine audiogram is administered seems to be initially, then again in 3 year's time, not too sure of the tolerances...good luck...
Not even gonna bother applying. I figure there's no way I stand any chance of getting through all the way. I can just picture it: even if I pass the interview, sim, background check:
"Congratulations, sir! We are proud to offer you the position of First Officer on the Airbus A320 contingent upon passing the medical scheduled for tomorrow!"
[two days later....]
"Umm, yeah, we're gonna have to go ahead and rescind our offer. We wish you luck in your future endeavors. The door is behind you to the left..."

On the other hand, maybe I should apply. Even if I get shot down, at least I won't regret it.
Put another way, I have a 100% chance of NOT being accepted if I don't apply. But as soon as I apply those odds get slightly better, so why not?
