Why no jumpseats here for our furloughed pilots?
What is the big deal with the TSA or FAA? Do they have a logical reason, or are they just enjoying their authority to exercise their deep-seated prejudice against airline pilots, as usual?
When their own company lays them off, they are not allowed to keep their company ID and use it to go look for a job or commute home with the company which at one time allowed them total access to any and all company cockpits, and if they watch a two-hour video on "ramp security" (as if we know nothing-we just fly the planes all over the US), allowed total access to any area around all company gates on the ground!

Yes, it's logical...
I.O.--How's it going? AA tried to get the jumpseat for the furloughees but got stuffed by the FAA.
You have to be an "Active Pilot". Furloughees are, by nature, inactive. They tried to get cabin access but only got 18 months of passes(and that's if you don't call in sick the month before you get whacked!).
I hope your company is more commuter friendly than AA--oops, how could they NOT be more commuter friendly .
Hope you and your family are doing ok. Take care.TC

'Former' AA717 driver, don't forget the honestly fair situation of ONLY AA furloughed pilots furloughed AFTER March 1st,2003 getting those 18-month pass benefits. For those pilots furloughed before that---90 days only.
Really fair and totally universal in their 'mind'. Idiots.

LordGrumpy--What's it like to not know?
Sorry, couldn't resist. The term furloughed is the same as being "made redundant" in the U.K.
The business slows down, fewer people are needed so you become unemployed with rights to be reinstated(recalled) when the airline grows again.
767300--Unfortunately, you are right. I'm guilty of looking at this from my perspective only. I appologize. I'll give you a call this week. And I'll notify everyone when I changed my screen name--the 717 obviously no longer applies as will the "AA" soon... Take care.TC
