Emirates A380 - Engine Change - EGLL

I hear the ugly bus needs a new engine at LHR.

The engines can't be tired already ?

CR2 27th Jan 2009 08:20

The engine will shortly be on its way from DXB, courtesy of a B747-400F :}

LambOfGod 27th Jan 2009 08:31

Boeing 747-400F, nice.

But, assuming the engines are the standard RR Trent 900's. Isn't Rolls Royce (or whoever the manufacturer is) to blame? Therefore the ironics of the 747 joke isn't very ironic:bored:

Sorry for being a smart ass...

But realy, whats wrong with the engine?:confused::confused::confused: Maybe it was in a test:}

Sunstar320 27th Jan 2009 08:37

Sounds expensive.

What are they worth each?

CR2 27th Jan 2009 08:50

Wasn't meant to be ironic; (well not very :O )
Just spent a few hours helping set the flight up :)
Should be in LHR around 2100Z.

Bolty McBolt 27th Jan 2009 08:57

Does anyone know the cause for the E/C..

QF just changed its first engine on the Dugong

Er, no, EK's A380s are powered by GP7200s.

What on earth are you talking about ?

It could be any number of factors that require an engine change, Having actually changed several Trent 900's I can safely say none have been down to manufacturers issues.

Please keep uninformed speculation to a minimum

GP7200's are another matter.....

Why?

What has caused they engine to "fail".

Birdstrike or other FOD?

Operator error? :p

Incorrect maintenance? :hmm:

Y'all beat me to it.

I does fit, just not in one piece... fan is removed.

Take a look at this link and scroll all the way to the bottom

:ok:The Trent 900 will fit into a 747 freighter, it was a prime design criteria. It is a tight fit using a special stand that "rolls" the engine on it's side so the engine can drop down lower in the stand.

:{However this does not apply to the Engine Alliance GP 700 series Emirates use on their A380s. The engine has to be shipped as a separate core, separate fan case and a set of fan blades, plus all the tooling to build up the engine at a remote site. The only other option is to charter an AN124 or similar outsize cargo aircraft to allow the engine to be shipped complete.

Same applies to the GE90 engine on 777-200LR and -300ER.

EK engine change

Who is doing the the change BA I guess

Left Coaster 27th Jan 2009 11:28

They can fit...moved one down under a while back...anticipatory move for a company that flies more than 6 of the big ones

DILLIGAFF 27th Jan 2009 12:21

Emirates are sending a working party over to do the change. When I left this morning the plan was to do it in the cathedral if there was space, if not they will have to do it outside.

EK e3ngine change

Hope the weather holds up for the guys from DXB its going to be bloody cold after what they are use too f

stickjoc 27th Jan 2009 13:22

Why can`t they 3 engine ferry it to TLS?.

False Capture 27th Jan 2009 13:25

Wouldn't it be easier to do a 3-engine ferry flight back to DXB?

Iceman2 27th Jan 2009 14:52

I'm not sure whether a 3-engine ferry is any easier, but I hear it is definitely on the cards!

Fosters 27th Jan 2009 15:51

Believe the Atlas 747F bringing in the engine is now confirmed as canx with 3 engine ferry out now the plan.

aviatordom 27th Jan 2009 15:53

Does anybody know what happened to the engine?
