I wonder if its gonna fly to DXB non-stop on 3 engines or stop somewhere? After all it still has to be light enough to climb on 2 engines.

Well, using a word like 'ugly' to somewhat prefix the 'Bus I assumed the member wasn't too much of an Airbus fan. So a post saying it was being transported on a 747 would saposedly be ironic.

Plus, all I here about is the bloody Trent 900, is there any other kind? Well now I know, I thought Airbus were different and didn't offer options.

well... I guess the engine acquired the french taste of things while in France and wants wine instead.. haha

but any more info ?? is it a blowout of seals,packings or gaskets ?? since they can easily replace the oil tank if it happens to be the oil tank .

Well, all that I can add is that the aircraft concerned was A6-EDD, and it has now left Heathrow.

It taxied past me this morning at about 11am, heading for the departure runway. I was led to believe that this was a 'positioning' flight to Toulouse.

Today's EK001/EK002 flight (normally an A.380) was a Boeing 777-300.

So was it a 3 engine ferry flight??

The GE90 has two be shipped in two parts the fan and propulsor, GE advertise the fact that the propulsor is usually the only part that needs to be shipped and you can actually buy spare propulsors instead of entire engines. I've done freight (747) trips carrying just GE90 propulsors and also full Trent 800s, from the Rolls Royce website the T900 is the only engine on the A380 that can be transported whole in a Boeing 747F (SCD-120"x134") The 777F has the same height SCD 120" however it's width is greater than the 747F.

Is there any more info on the status of A6-EDD? I'm due to fly on 2nd February from DXB to LHR on EK001. When do EK aim to have it back in service?

I'm surprised that the GP7200's been playing up - EA were really confident that it was the better engine for the A380.

GE90 and RR Trent 800 we ship complete powerplant assemblies when it comes to an off base (overseas) engine change. It's simpler and quicker!
The only aircraft that can ship them intact is the AN 124 Ruslan and they are both a tight fit height wise! A credit to the winch operators.:8

From what I heard through a friend of mine who works at LHR, the EK A380 engine in question had broken fan blades and was leaking oil when it arrived there from DXB and ended up being ferried back to DXB on 3 engines.

Not entirely true, it would be an easy load in the C-5, but the Economy Act prohibits it. :ugh:
