Dash-8 question
I'am preparing for Dash-8 ground and flight training.
Now do I have an Flight Safety Pilot Training Manual for this airplane at home but I have a question and I hope somebody here can help me with it.
In the powerplant section they are talking in regard to the HMU (Hydro Mechanical Unit) about P3 Pressure.
What is P3 Pressure?
I hope someone can help me because I can not find it in any of my other books.
Thanks,
RadialCaptain

"Mechanical input from the power lever to an HMU power shaft is summed with a pneumatic pressure signal from the second stage compressor (=P3) to derive a lean (base line) fuel schedule" (Page 7-5 FSM)
Also, the Dash 8-300 series are not equipped with a HMU, but with a MFC.(Page 7-25 FSM)
Do you have the manual from Flightsafety Canada ?

Thanks for your input.
And yes the manual is from Flight Safety Canada but it is kind of old it is printed in july 1996 and it is printed for so well the Dash-8 100, 200 as 300.
By the way in this manual on page 7-25 they are talking about the Autofeather system.
I'am using it to get an headstart on my training so it is not impossible that some parts of this manual are not totally up to date anymore.

P3 air on the dash-8 comes off of the high pressure centrifigual compressor. It is used as bleed to the pressurization/airconditioning system, and the de-icing system, as well as to help the HMU provide fuel schedueling (-100 series anyway.) P3 air always flows to the HMU, and is turned on or off as a function of engine speed to the pressurization system by the PSRV valves. P3 air is used in pressurization and airconditioning at low power settings, and is shut off at high settings to prevent overheat of the ACM and the ducting. At high settings, P2.5 air is used. It comes off of the low pressure compressor. In flight, when you pull the power back, you can really tell when the P3 air kicks in, as the a/c system will pump out a noticable increase in air flow (to the flight crew at least.)
Good luck with the ground school. I flew them for only 6 months (now on the e120 ) and I really loved them. While they weren't very fast or very sexy, they are big, comfortable, a joy to fly, easy to fly (though that perfect landing is very elusive) and great performers. (How does a Vref of only 84 kts at low light weight grab you!) I miss them a lot. Have fun.

Thank you all for your reply's.
I hope I'am doing well in learning this manual because I read out of your answers there are alot of differences in this manual and the manual for the Q300 series.
But it is better than doing nothing and to wait until they send me the current manual.
