Flysmart Message

I couldn't understand the operational significance of this flysmart message. Any explanation would be appreciated:

"TOW is smaller than structural MZFW"

It’s intended to make you think about the number you just entered and whether it’s correct.

It seems your entries has somehow lead to a solution for your Take Off Weight that is less than the Maximum Zero Fuel Weight of the Aircraft. While it is plausible that this TOW is correct I guess MR. Software has questions.

The number you've enter is small enough that there's a reasonable chance you've accidentally entered something other than the take-off weight, e.g., you might have entered the zero fuel weight instead. It is quite normal for short sectors with a light load. Double check the number you've entered, select OK if appropriate, carry on.

Completely normal and as it says.

if you ever ferry aircraft empty this is expected. It’s just a double check.

To be fair they could probably word the alert a little more clearly to show why they're questioning you. But it's a good gross error check to trap common mistakes.

I seem to recall that it started appearing after an A340 crew used ZFW for TO calcs and went through some of the approach lights at the DER. Good error check as has been said.
