MMEL B737NG 52-06/52-08

Hello,
Can someone please explain why the FWD CARGO (only) compartment should be kept empty (besides empty cargo handling equipment, ballast (ballast may be loaded in ULDs), and/or Fly Away Kits) when BOTH CARGO doors are dispatched (MMEL 52-06-04) with 2 missing or broken pressure stop fittings?
Thanks

Probably because that door is in front of the #2 engine. You do not want anything falling out of that compartment if the Cargo door should open. Just a guess.

I asked the maintenance department and the answer was The requirement to ensure the lower forward cargo compartment remains empty is related to smoke penetration certification when flying unpressurized.
