A320 FMS THS entry
Gents,
On the PERF TAKEOFF page, there's an optional field for the THS setting. Is the value entered there used for anything, or is it just as a reminder for the crew?
Thanks

On A320 it's like a scratch pad entry. Reminder of what you calculated to be set after start. Doesn't trigger any warning if not entered. A330 onwards it's different. There was a mod supposed to come on A320 but not sure.

(Unfortunately) the MOD for 320 is in place. While the MCDU entry does not move anything (as opposed to contemporary A330s) there is an ECAM warning THS/MCDU disagree if the trim wheel is mis-set.

The THS is set to obtain consistent Pitch characteristics on rotation. As part of the After Start actions, the PM sets the THS with reference to the Scale markings on the Trim Wheel. During Flight Control checks the PM can look at the setting displayed on the FLT CTL page and cross check with the display in the PERF T/O page and refine the setting if required.
