737 Disengage vs Disconnect
The Non normal checklist in the QRH refer to "Disengaging" the A/P. (E.G. Runaway Stabilizer). The Non-Normal Maneuvers states about Disconnecting the A/P.
Why two different words, which mean the same thing.
Why two different words, which mean the same thing.
It is probably because two different authors wrote the respective procedures, or something was cut and pasted from an earlier iteration of the manuals.
Were an auditor to pick me up on such a trivial matter, my reaction would probably be to suggest that he get a life.
This stuff happens all the time in the production of complex technical material and is really of no importance in the grand scheme of things, just so long as the meaning is clear.
Though of course those whose first language is not English may sometimes ponder the differences in terminology. It's not as if the French are not just as guilty as the Americans in using more than one word for the same thing.
Still it's better than the British usage of the term 'inflammable' for stuff that quite clearly is 'flammable' ....... (ducks for cover)

Some manufacturers attempt to differentiate between the system automaticaly ‘disengaging’ itself due to internal monitoring / safety feature, and the pilot choosing to ‘disconnect’ the system or being required to as part of a procedure.
Or vice versa, or editing differences as above, or just inconsistency.
I can’t locate a ref, but it might have been stated in an SAE standards document.
