Microburst...
Given the recent 737-8 incident, there are many responses regarding a microburst potential. The following is provided as information, and should certainly clear up the understanding of microburst mechanics....
Wet Microburst (AUS BoM)
.
Dry Microburst (AUS BoM)
.
FAA understanding of Microburst
.
University understanding of Microburst (UW Atmospheric Sciences)
.
US Airforce understanding of Microburst
.
NOAA understanding of Microburst

nit,
IF you were able to READ, and COMPREHEND the first line of the post, it is in regards to posts about the potential.
SO, you have seen it before, why bother to respond?
Perhaps you should concentrate on providing information, rather than trolling the forum, and posting garbage.
Edit: BTW...the INTENT of the post was to illustrate that the different entities have fundamental differences in understanding the mechanics of a microburst...

Much as I'VE seen this before, there are doubtless newbies and wannabes on the site that haven't- so thanks FP, the effort is appreciated.

The Lionair crew simply does not deserve the credit that you (inadvertently?) give them and that IS worth a serious reply.

Okay, there were many posts on the Lionair thread about the possibility of microburst.
Given that the responses were all over the place on microburst, prevailing cloud cover, microburst detection, etc,... the intent of the post was to provide information to posters on this board about microburst mechanics.
It has nothing to do with the Lionair incident....
And here I was going to post about how about the differences between the different manufacturers of microburst detection systems on the aircraft....
