Difference between PITCH TRIM and STAB TRIM ?

Hi Guys,

Just want to check if the above mentioned are talking about the same thing. Got a bit confused in a recent discussion.

Thanks

Hi lion-g,

Yes it's the same thing achieved in slightly different ways.

With a fixed stabiliser, we trimmed the elevators (using a trim tab in the old days). The elevators remained in the new position "stick free".
With an all moving stabiliser, we trim the stab. The elevators can then relax to a "faired" almost midway neutral position.

Stabilizer trim (STAB TRIM) is one (but not the only) type of Pitch trim.

Unless you are on a Tristar, where the elevators are geared to the stabiliser and do not move on their own.
