Geometric Path U10.8A B737-800

Can the FMC be set to fly a geometric path descent between two waypoints, prior to the approach, when in a VNAV descent. Presently the aircraft will enter a F/I descent to a waypoint, say XXXX 8000B and then fly level until it intercepts a new F/I TOD point based on another down leg waypoint. A geometric path between the 8000' and the down leg waypoint would have been smoother than a large thrust increase followed by retard back to F/I. I know this can be managed with the MCP but was intrested to see if it can be set into the FMC by the pilots for a VNAV descent. I believe that the FMC on our aircraft has common VNAV option installed.
Thx.
