A380 and ELTs

I was in SIN the other day and saw an A380 taking off. As it rotated, I heard an ELT going off, just for a few seconds.

I thought it was funny as heck. Was it a coincidence or on purpose? I wonder.

Easy, we monitor 121.5 all the time.

To transmit the ELT signal, all one has to do is turn the ELT switch on for a second or two, then turn it off.

Once triggered, the ELT is not going to turn itself off after a few seconds.

Pure co-incidence, I'd say.
