intercepting radial on the Airbus and no Airbus?
here a question, cuz on the 320, nobody cares.and i got this question in an interview one day.
you are northeast of a station at around 40 miles away, heading south 180 degree.
you are asked to intercept the radial 090 TO the station and descent when on the radial.
how far from the radial do you start your turn and how far are u authorized to descend.
this question implies that you must stay within 5 miles of your radial. 3 miles in USA, right? please no 60:1 rule.... i need a simpler rule.
on a basic plane I use the top of the VOR needle(but you have to be cautious knowing that turning and descending 10 degree before the radial will not protect you as you are at 6 miles from your airways centerline ....(rule 60/1) ,
in the bus, you follow the green line as the FMGC calculates your descent and even, I ask myself, if the bus takes this into consideration as it must have the MEA database in his system,....

How far from the radial you start your turn on - just note your Mach No, halve it and that becomes the range at which to start the turn. Works for us mil dudes. Try also the Tech log Sticky/FAQ thread - there's a reference in there somewhere to a very useful pilot's rule-of-thumb website (can't for the life of me remember it though. Happy flying...

I don not know even the simpliest of the rules, so I would ask PNF to make FMGS Direct to to the station with the radial in 090 and after confirmation he would executed the revision, NAV will be armed, lateral intercept will be managed. What about vertical task - manually after interception or if I had time I would manage it as well, creating respective point and constraint. Or have I not understood the question?

Life's too short to calculater radii of turns! I would get near until you got that feeling, then turn to make an intercept and watch for the needle to come in and capture that. If criticised by anyone, I would say 'I'm sorry, but this is positively a**l! That was good enough for Mum, it's good enough for you!' It gives you capacity to phone the cabin crew to order your meal as well.

my dear,
This is the opposite form arc to radial, and is coming from a distance(ARC) and he has to enter in a radial. but if you know ones better just tell us the right one, my dear.
