intercepting radial on the Airbus and no Airbus?

here a question, cuz on the 320, nobody cares.and i got this question in an interview one day.

you are northeast of a station at around 40 miles away, heading south 180 degree.
you are asked to intercept the radial 090 TO the station and descent when on the radial.

how far from the radial do you start your turn and how far are u authorized to descend.
this question implies that you must stay within 5 miles of your radial. 3 miles in USA, right? please no 60:1 rule.... i need a simpler rule.

on a basic plane I use the top of the VOR needle(but you have to be cautious knowing that turning and descending 10 degree before the radial will not protect you as you are at 6 miles from your airways centerline ....(rule 60/1) ,

in the bus, you follow the green line as the FMGC calculates your descent and even, I ask myself, if the bus takes this into consideration as it must have the MEA database in his system,....
