A320 Go Around Question.

A320 Question thrown to u guys.

Approach with Flap3 when u go around do u select Flaps1 immediately or still select one stage up to Flaps2?

If u support either answer, please provide a reference so that I have something black and white to refer to.

Thanks and fly blue side up~!

Can't give an FCOM reference as BA use their own Flying Manual, but in there it states ' Flaps ....... Retract one step'. So that would be from Full>3 or from 3>2 etc.

FCOM 3 gives the following advice................................

3-03-23...Standard and High Level G/A and 3-03-27...Single Engine G/A, both state CM1 (PF) orders "Go-around....Flaps". CM2 (PNF) will retract flaps by one stage.
At published Engine Out Acceleration Alt push V/S and retract remaining flaps on schedule

Go-around procedures are outlined in FCOM 3.03.

the call is go around flaps, flap handle moved up one place. from 4 to 3 or if its flap 3-from position 3 to position 2. the confusion can arise when cleaning up from flaps 3 take off in the acceleration stage.

f plus accelerating- flaps one. thats normallly the call for a flaps 2 take off when the plane accelerates past the f speed. flap handle goes from 2 to 1.

but in a flaps 3 take off-it goes from 3 to one. same call- f plus accelerating-flaps one but handle goes straight from 3 to 1. then from 1 to 0 as normal above s speed

definitely not to be confused with a flap 3 approach to go around. dont have reference for this-not near an Fcom today

Thats sounds about right, the only case where you go from Flap 3, to 1 + F is during a Flap 3 Go Around while you are overweight.

The EZY way:

PF WILL APPLY THE FOLLOWING THREE ACTIONS SIMULTANEOUSLY:
THRUST LEVERS...................................................... ................................ TOGA
ANNOUNCE ............................................................ ....."GO AROUND/FLAPS"
ROTATION ............................................................ ............................PERFORM
Monitor the rotation if at least one AP is ON otherwise; rotate the aircraft to get a
positive rate of climb, and establish the required pitch attitude as directed by the
SRS pitch command bar. Rotate to 10-12.5° in the case of one engine out.
NOTE:
1 The MCDU PERF page will switch automatically to the G/A phase.
FLAPS ............................................................ .................... RETRACT ONE STEP
PNF selects flaps up one stage and announces "Flaps _".
ANNOUNCE (PNF) ............................................................ ."POSITIVE CLIMB"
PNF checks PFD VSI, ALT & RAD ALT for indications of climb and calls “positive
climb”.
ORDER ............................................................ ................................ "GEAR UP"
PF confirms a positive rate of climb on PFD indications and calls “GEAR UP”
PNF then:
ANNOUNCE ............................................................ ....................... "GEAR UP"
Selects the landing gear selector lever up and confirms gear travel commences
Disarm the ground spoilers
Select the NOSE and TURN OFF lights OFF
CHECK & ANNOUNCE FMA (PF) ....................... MAN TOGA/ SRS/ GA TRK
NOTE:
1 For PF - consider retarding thrust levers to CL detent if TOGA thrust is not
required. Consider the use of the AP.

NAV or HDG mode ............................................................ .................... SELECT
Reselect NAV or HDG, as required (minimum height 100ft).
RADIO CALL........................................................ ..............”GOING AROUND”
NOTE:
1 Go-around may be flown with both autopilots engaged. Whenever any other
mode engages, AP 2 disengages.
AT GO-AROUND THRUST REDUCTION ALTITUDE (LVR CLB FLASHING ON
FMA):
THRUST LEVERS ............................................................ .................................CL
AT GO-AROUND ACCELERATION ALTITUDE:
• Monitor that the target speed increases to green dot.
IF THE TARGET SPEED DOES NOT INCREASE TO GREEN DOT:
FCU ALT ............................................................ ........................................ PULL
PF pulls ALT to engage Open Climb
RETRACT FLAPS ON SCHEDULE ABOVE F SPEED SELECT FLAP 1, ABOVE S
SPEED SELECT FLAP ZERO.
NOTE:
1 Consider the next step:
Engage NAV mode to follow the published missed approach procedure or....
Prepare for a second approach by selecting the ACTIVATE APP PHASE and
CONFIRM on the PERF page.
