top gear 747

Does anyone have any info on 747 shown on top gear. It has it's engines on two pylons instead of four and appears to have tanks/pods on the wings.

I *think* its the one parked up at Kemble(?), I've flown into there a few times and I seem to recongnise it. I too was curious about the pylons.

Shots there!

Subject to an AAIB report here
http://www.aaib.gov.uk/cms_resources...pdf_502110.pdf

It got modded for
a Bond film, the two outer engines have been replaced with outboard wing tanks - inner engines have been replaced with mocked-up dual pylon-mounted engine pods under each wing near similar to Boeing B-47 Stratojet.

Are they GenX engines with the fancy tailfeathers or just done for Bondy?

Are they GenX engines .....?
Not GenX, more like Generation Z.

Its a bit difficult to dig out the finer details, but they're something to do with a Joint Venture between Rolls Royce, Shell and the Environment Ministry. My contacts tell me the programme is investigating an experimental plasma drive that will enable the use of non-fossil aircraft fuels.
