A319 Short Field Performance ?

Hi,

Was PAX very recently on a A319 into EGLL landing on 27L - the only unusual thing about that being:

1. Whoever was handling managed to stop the the a/c and vacate onto taxiway Alpha (formerly R/W23). A pretty tidy shortfield arrival and something I hadn't seen done since our collegues at British Midland and Brymon used to run their DHC-7s into LHR.

2. It seemed to be well withing the a/c capabilities - i.e no tooth dislodging braking and snaking etc etc

Me not being familar with the perfomance of the 319, I was wondering is this typical? any one else vacate onto alpha to make the journey to the various T1 stands quicker?

Cheers

You'd need one or more of the following to achieve alpha off 27L:

1) A stonking headwind and a light aircraft leading to a low groundspeed.
2) Hammering the brakes.
3) Ducking under the glideslope.

If somebody had suggested this kind of thing when I was flying the 319 I'd certainly have raised an eyebrow!

Hi,

this is what I guessed - given the absence of condition '2', I can only assume that '1' and '3' were true !

Tea and biscuits time? or just a little bit frowned on?
