Alternate Question - UK Carriers?

Evening,

How many destination alternates are normally used for UK carriers, is it the standard 4 - or does it differ between each airline?

Fairly mundane question, but I would be interested to know.

Cheers

Don't know what the 'standard' 4 is.............JAR OPS requires 1, occasionally a couple, sometimes none at all but never 4.

You'll find a link in the excellent 'Sticky' at the top of this forum to JAROPS which will tell you all about diversion requirements.

I was under the impression that normally 4 alternates are selected, but from what you’re saying this isn't the case.

What made me think that was in the case of EGCC they normally nominate EGGP, EGBB, EGNX and EGNM with EGGP being the primary. I just thought this was standard practise for destination airfields, obviously I have got it wrong.

BAE - PLEASE read JAROPS at reference before you post again. All your answers are there. There is nothing to stop anyone nominating 16 alternates if they wish (apart from availability) but it is not REQUIRED.

I think what 146-100 is confusing is the alternate list on the Jetplan/Airplan/ or whatever flight planning tool his company use. The list of 4 is there for ease of use i.e pick the 1 that you will use, the others are there so you can see the extra fuel needed to reach them, you haven't actually nominated them but you have the information required if you do.

The Part A has a full list of all the requirements for alternate weather,RFF, facilities etc and whether you actually need one.

Thanks a lot guys, this is now clear. 145qrh is absolutely right I was confusing the alternate list. It has been nice to know more about the subject though, I'll make sure to read JAROPS above, BOAC.

Sorry about that.
