757/767 STAB/TRIM
Just a quick question regarding the funny V-shaped trim levers found on the 757/767. Do they replace the traditional trim wheel and if so, why are there two (one labelled STAB and the other TRIM)?

These stabiliser levers activate the alternate trim control. Pushing both together mechanically signals stabiliser movement, overriding conflicting trim commands. With many trim lever, switch arrangements there are 2 levers so that inadvertent pressure on only 1 will not result in a trim change. There may be more to it than that, but as a pilot this is what is important.
Other 757s/767s may have alternate stabiliser trim switches (again 2 of them) in the same place which electrically signal the operation of the stabliser.
Unlike the normal control wheel trim switches, use of alternate trim does not cause disengagement of the autopilot, if engaged.
