Hi all.

Have tried to track down some info, but cant manage to find any about the following

- Are their any dis-advantages of using wide chord fan blades

- Are their any disadvantages of wide chord fan engines in general

- Any A340-300/600 drivers care to divulge the fuel burns for thier aircraft

mostly advantages like
less damage due f.o.d.,iceing,bird hits,etc.
no mid span shrouds in fan, more strength

The disadvantages are
-high weight
-low aspect ratio i.e. low thrust

I wouldn't bet on the "low aspect ratio == low thrust" connection. A rotor with a duct wrapped around it minimizes tip losses, thus aspect ratio is not really a factor.

And use of modern materials (hollow titanium or advanced composites) minimizes the weight factor.
