Cockpit Noise Level A320
Hi,I would like to get some ideas how pilots of other airlines handle the high noise level in the airbus cockpit which is caused by the avionics and cabin fans.In my opinion the noise level poses a safety risk.There is a modification for the avionics fan available (dual speed fan) to get it quiet ,but as of course it costs money our company won`t buy it.During transit Airbus allows to switch the cabin fans of but not the avionics blower fan.So what do you do to protect your ears?

Airbus....noise?
The noise that does exist in the airbus flight deck and easily be resolved by closing all but a couple of the air conditioning vents...they're everywhere and make a huge difference when they are shut.

After flying several types of airliners I can promise you that there is no modern aircraft that is less noisier than an Airbus. Maybe a MD90.
Does someone know what is the noise you hear on descent around 5000 ft, sounds like opening some cabin press valve. Nobody ever could answer me that question.

I have also found that if you open ALL the vents fully, although initially noisy, once the pipes are warmed slightly, it is about the quietest cockpit I have ever been in!! Safety Risk? Pardon? I have to say, what utter rot!
p.s. I believe the noise is caused by 'sonic friction' which reduces significantly as the metal warms up.

same with the 737.At 5000' ,which corresponds to 2 psi ,the forward outflow valve will open...
I bet the 320 is less louder than the 700NG.....no way hearing the engines on the 737NG...very disturbing for experienced 737 Classic pilots during initial training on the NG..
....you hear almost no difference in noise,even while shutting down engines on stand..

That's the problem with all modern airliners. EFIS require more cooling and passenger comfort progress allowed better, i.e. more, bleed demand.
The quietest airliner was and still is the MD-80. You will never beat that one. But who wants to go back to electro-mechanical needles?
