I am starting a new job early next year on the A320 and have never flown an Airbus before. I'd like to do some reading to get a head start on the training, can anyone recommend any good books? Note I'm looking for books with technical detail of aircraft systems and their functioning and operating and performance data. Please don't recommend books with historical anecdotes and info for plane spotters (not that I have any problem with spotters, of course).

Not a book, but you might want to look at Jerome Meriweather's A320 flight-deck layout site:

This seems to have been lifted more or less verbatim from whatever Airbus calls the "controls and indicators" section of its FCOMs.
Enjoy.

Hey 3 Point,
The best thing before the actual course would be the CBT (Computer Based Training) CD-ROM for your PC. These things are great, I had the good fortune of getting my hands on one before I started A330 school.
Maybe you can ask your employer to give you the CD ahead of time, they should be happy you want to be well prepared.
Good Luck, you'll enjoy the Airbus.
