Post Jetstream 31 info req'd.

I am shortly to start flying the J31 (LHS) and would be interested to hear about peoples experiences, stories and opinions. Obviously the groundschool/sim course will be a thorough grounding, but you can never know too much, can you??
Thanks in advance.

Rule 1 - Trim it out. If you do, it's a pussycat. If you don't, you'll have your hands very, very full.

Rule 2 - Don't ever trust your engines. Be very careful how you look after the props as well. The SRL/TTL computers do a good job on the whole, but don't mistreat them, or they'll give up and allow the engines to rise up and smite thee. On the approach, don't keep changing power settings. Far better for the aircraft is to pick a power setting and stick to it - it works! You don't say who will be doing your training, but if it's Geoff Wallis of Eastern (formerly of Air Kilroe) he's one of the good guys. Very laid back, good pilot, good instructor, and he buys his fair share of the drinks!

Rule 3 - get a smaller flight case! There is precious little room up front for anything.

Rule 4 - if you're flying with cabin crew weighing anything more than 4 stone, have the PNF keep an eye on him/her. As they walk up and down the aircraft you'll need to keep retrimming lots!

Your post doesn't say if you're flying the 31 or the Super 31 (later renamed the 32). Performance of the 31 is comparable to a wet weekend in S****horpe.

(Oops - the system edited that. It's a town, first syllable "Scun", second syllable "thorpe"! )

The 32 is better, but not much.

Obey the rules and you'll find it fun. It's not a bad aircraft, very easy to fly well.

A pilots a/c.Agree with much of the above
-suprisingly high control forces required durig EFATO (improved on the 41)
-solidly built
When flying the line
-Top of Drop focus (it does not go down and slow down at the same time)
-Watch your fuel uplifts;very little margin when you have a cabin anywhere near full.
