At max payload range reduced to 2200 miles, wouldn't quite make Gander. Looking at the Windy website recently has shown somewhat extreme winds over the Atlantic (100kts. and more) mostly west to east. |
A couple of subsequent track segments on FR24 earlier today, so clearly it didn't fall out the sky into the sea. :O
My money is still on a stopover at Gander. Noted southbound over the Windward Islands in the early hours of this morning with the same flight number, level at FL240, possibly bound for Port-of-Spain or somewhere in Venezuela. Northbound about six hours later, again heading roughly in the direction of Newfoundland. |
I presume this return is a paraglider enjoying a spot of slope-soaring along the scarp slope of the South Downs...

UR-KDM AN12BK just droning overhead Didcot, heading for Dublin.
|
AN-12 UR-CGW coming back the other way, coasting into Wales just south of St Davids - doesn't appear to have stopped at Shannon and if it holds its course should pass over London in half an hour or so.

Just droned over LHR, FL270 |
Lovely deep drone, I nipped outside as he passed over LHR and got the full symphony! Dare I say that it sounds so much better than the A400!
|
Ditto! Nothing better sound-wise, except perhaps the AN-22!

Somewhat wonky plot on FR24, but initial position/track is again consistent with a Gander tech stop. Now just approaching the Czech border, presumably positioning empty back home to Kyiv.
If the outbound destination from SVG was POS, it seems likely that its cargo was oil/gas related. |
Happened to have a Great view of an aircraft overhead in Perth Western Australia.
It was was a Qatar A350-1041 flying almost directly overhead on a 5 mile final at 1500 feet.(According to flight radar it was “ brand new “). What a truly majestic sight it was , seemed to be almost hanging in the air and so quiet. Such a beautiful looking machine as well , one of the nicest looking around today. I have traveled on the A350-900 fortunately in Business Class and it was probably the most comfortable flight have ever had .(A380 was very close ) Extremely quiet in a very spacious cabin and fabulous seats (CX) . This aeroplane sure is a big winner for Airbus. Cant wait to have the pleasure of flying on it again one day when the dreaded COVID is controlled which unfortunately will take quite a while . |
Big Bell (412 ?) heli 4 blader, just gone low over Bicester airfield East - West, just came back, flying around within airfield, now gone - Westwards ?????. any ideas any body

Eh up lad, you obviously haven't flown with Yorkshire Airlines!

There are a lot of things better than it, but there's nothing quite like it, to paraphrase Oscar Wilde (I think). The A400 acoustic is definitely individual and today's was really loud.

We get A400s on a regular basis here in South Somerset. They seem to be heading to/from Yeovilton and the cynic in me has been wondering why they seem to go to Yeovilton about 1100hrs and return about 1400hrs. Lunch anyone?! The sound is absolutely unique but back in the 50s/60s living in west London the Viscounts and Vanguards were pretty unique as well.
The other thing we get occasionally are C-130s but they are usually on low level training and disappear behind hills rather quickly! |
RAF A400M & C-17A same , opposite route today, similar time

NOTE at the same time, 12.00, as I was listening to the A400M @ Bracknell [ not Packhams Birds - sorry Chris ] , ZZ171 - Boeing C-17A Globemaster III was taking off from AKT Akrotiri, Cyprus where the A400M was heading. ZZ171 Globemaster landed at Brize just after 4.30pm. Same route , I could NOT be bothered to work out where they passed and waggled wings , less patience today, Lockdown III Day 1 ? , thanks Boris ...TFC |
That UR-CGW is a busy lad. Currently droning westbound across Lincolnshire at 21000...
Yep, the Dart's sound was pretty distinctive, my mind can still hear BIA Heralds starting and taxying at Gatwick, also 1-11s had a pretty distinctive start up sound. If you really want a good turboprop sound though, the AN-22 is hard to beat in this day and age - probably the Tu-95 as well. |
