Vistor to FAB \EGLF this morning POLISH106 0002 C\N5554 G550 Polish Air Force

Irish Air Corps PC-9 zipped over me earlier - I could hear but not see it, despite a clear sky and some cirrus which I thought might have made it easier to see, but I guess a pretty small spec at about 25000' - an Air France B777 appeared to be below the cirrus at the same time. It seems to be returning home from Zurich or Stans. IAC PC-12 just crossing the Channel on the same route...

RAF P-8 Poseidon now doing circuits at NCL

Something big and noisy just flew overhead me near Abingdon, couldn't see it and nothing on Flightradar24.
Sounded quite low and "proppy" rather then "jetty" maybe towards Oxford?

Added: probably just a Herc heading to Brize actually now I think of it.

DaveReidUK 17th Dec 2020 21:19

Given a rough time and an approximate direction, should be easy enough to ID.

goldox 18th Dec 2020 10:37

Thursday 17/12 about 21.40hrs.
Flew over Didcot and sounded like heading due North and loud enough to be under 3000' I would say.
Definitely turboprop not jet. and if was a Hercules they don't often fly directly overhead. Usually only stuff inbound to Kidlington go overhead that low heading north.
Will probably turn out to be a bog standard C130 into Brize Norton on a slightly unusual path?
Thanx for any info.

DaveReidUK 18th Dec 2020 11:53

Nice catch !

Royal Danish AF C-130J-30 B-536: https://myneighbourhood.emsbk.com/lh...btrak/50039423

I agree, probably inbound to Brize Norton.

goldox 18th Dec 2020 13:04

Thanx DaveReid vey interesting! Danish visitor then!

treadigraph 18th Dec 2020 15:44

Interesting that the Danish C-130 didn't show up on Flight Tracker last night - I noticed one beating up Spadeadam on a flying visit yesterday as did one earlier in the week as noted by somebody else a page or two back.

almost professional 18th Dec 2020 16:28

The Danish C130 was at Spadeadam three times this week, same route inbound every time, straight across North Sea coast in at Amble.

Yes, that's strange - it was sending almost the full range of ADS-B and EHS parameters (except TAS), so it should have been easily plottable.

Departed Brize about 23:30, heading in a vaguely Danish direction: https://myneighbourhood.emsbk.com/lh...btrak/50039615

ADS-B shows nothing at all in the area, including military. It could, i suppose, be a satellite but it definitely appeared to flash, and not just a 'white' light.

Can anyone shed any light?

EDIT: I guess a time would help - about 06:50

Looking at the brightest satellites that morning I would suggest that this is it :

Ah, thanks - could well have been. I notice its a former satellite, which may explain the 'flashing' e.g. resulting from tumbling?

There are some more details on this Breeze Tank here, fascinating ..

Space is also fascinating , and normally a lot more expensive than Aviation , there are some more details on this here ;

Another one to add to the list, this one live ( with fuel ) but safe we are told - perhaps Mr.Telsa, Elon Musk ? saw an opportunity

Another U-2 coming home across the North Sea - 80-1083, I recall that batch when they were called TR-1s.

Not much British mil around this week, everybody hibernating for Covid/Christmas?
