Manchester Airport
Hi all, Just watched this old bird (ZS-OSI) depart 24L, original engines, no hushkits! absolutely fantastic! apparently positioned in from Lynham and out to Portugal?
Regards, Steve :E |
Where is Lynham and where is 24L ???
|
Well 24L is at Manchester and a certain DC8 did arrive and I would guess at Lyneham
Did the DC8 go to Portugal or Port of Spain as I am sure I read somewhere it was doing G-I-B |
PF - it is a military (transport) airfield west of London. But that's not important right now.............. :)
|
yep, did a dangerous goods charter to Port of Spain.

Any idea what it was carrying? |
Is Lyneham still going to close (by 2012) ? ......
|
Must be carrying dangerous goods for the Cricket world cup! Joking aside, it would be great to see a DC8 into LGW again...nice smoking trail as well. Hope you lucky sods in MAN enjoyed the sound...

Flintoff and Pietersen are our dangerous goods! |
Those were the glory days at LGW but nothing better then a Spantax CV990,
|
Yes a nice clear day no wind and on departure you used to be able to follow them out on 06 and past Congleton and the see as they continued the climb towards Honiley
G-I-B |
Bet the NIMBYs would love that, clapped out DC8 carrying dangerous goods.
Recipe for disaster |
AWR - I know but cannot tell you!

Agree about the smoke trail. Saw one (maybe the same one) leave Newcastle one clear evening a couple of years ago, could follow it for ages. Very occasionally (about once every couple of months) Pulkovo still substitute a Tu154 at Heathrow for their 737. Same effect. |

Think you'll find it has hush kits, aircraft without were banned from European airspace a long time ago. And this one has been operating through various European points quite happily in recent years.

Manchester Questions
DC-10F Supposedly nightstopping at MAN tonight and out around 10.00LT on Wed.
Any idea what she's moving in or out and where from/to? |
Banzai Eagle please be assured AIA do not fly clapped out a/c.
Also any DGR carried by the airline is packed and stowed according to ICAO & IATA regulations. Unless of course you no better !. |
....their loadies being good old ex-RAF types, one would hope that would be the case? :ok:
|
it landed last night and it was carrying more dangerous goods to the port of spain same as the dc8 carried on sunday. reg of the dc10 was n605gc operated by gemini air cargo.

Thought the flights might be related - though I noticed the GCO flight was flying to San Juan (I think). Still interested to know what the cargo is. Dangerous goods don't take too many forms in general. |
could be bottles of water

Cheers Was flying from AMS to YYZ. Word is that it diverted to MAN to have it's toilets systems emptied and then topped up with water as it wasn't done at AMS and they only realised after take off. Hence it only being on the ground for 40 minutes. |

Herc at MAN today
Maybe it was just me being dozey, but I saw a dark grey Herc touch down at MAN just after 1pm today but could see no record of a flight plan to MAN, or to any of the usual airports from which they sometime divert (BRZ, LBA, LPL etc).
It was followed by an RAF L1011 about 15 minutes later, but it was showing that he had come in from Canada. Wasn't sure if they were related or not, and was the reason for the visits was. Thanks. |
Diversion due to thick fog at Lyneham and Brize?
|
Herc was a div, TriStar was planned

Qantas at MAN?
Just seen a QF 744 land at MAN.
Presume it's been chartered to bring Chelsea fans to the big match? And if that's the case, being a VH reg, would it have to have been chartered through a BA sub or had to get traffic rights to operate internally in the UK. |

Sure was busing at MAN yesterday with exec aircraft. Just a shame that the private 767 didn't make an appearance. |

Only OO- registered a/c into MAN yesterday was a Lear 45, and only helis were G-, EI- or N- registered which came in for the match I think.
Can only assume it didn't come into MAN and was just overflying - unless it went into Barton? |

Pretty rare - Barton normally doesn't accept helis after dark as I understand it.
That heli is used as a North Sea emergency rescue machine, as well as a rig staff transporter, so it may have been on offical business. |
I saw a Malaysia Airlines 777 came into MAN a little before 3pm this afternoon.
Couldn't see a flight plan into MAN, so assume it's a fuel/weather diversion from LHR??? |
It was 9M-MRE operating PK701. PIA have leased it till February due to 747 unservceability I believe.
