escorted low flying passenger plane over Munich

A passenger plane escorted by 4 military fighter jets just (literally ~ 5 minutes ago, around 10:10 am local time) passed extremely low over Munich (sorry for the imprecise report - uneducated eyes here).

Anyone know why?

Could it have been a tanker with 4 fighter jets shadowing it ? It wouldn't make much sense to intercept and escort a rogue aircraft over a large population. It might also have been a tribute to someone/something. Were the fighter in a tight formation of sorts ?

Whatever we can say about the DM and it's antics, the photos are always plentiful and colourful. A strange choice of lead aircraft by the Israelis.

The two 707s would have been interesting.

We've found three dispatch able typhoons in the Luftwaffe inventory ... now that's news!

I have to say I didn't recognise that as a Gulfstream at all and the wing platform should have been a giveaway!
